Super User 00 mod Posted August 1, 2012 Super User Posted August 1, 2012 Nice cranks! Are these actually made from pvc? Jeff Quote
Fishwhittler Posted August 2, 2012 Author Posted August 2, 2012 Thanks guys! Nice cranks! Are these actually made from pvc? Jeff Jeff, I use AZEK PVC board for my lures. AZEK PVC is an expanded PVC foam used for composite decking, and it's not anything like the PVC used for pipes! Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted August 2, 2012 Super User Posted August 2, 2012 Ahh, got ya! SO I assume they float and not suspend? This is an interesting concept. How well do they fish? They look great! Jeff Quote
Fishwhittler Posted August 2, 2012 Author Posted August 2, 2012 These baits are floaters. PVC foam board is a bit less buoyant than cedar, so buoyancy is not a problem. PVC fishes no differently than a wooden or plastic crank bait - a good PVC lure will catch a lot of fish, and bad ones won't. All three materials give different actions to a given lure style, but none of those materials are better or worse than the others. Quote
jbass Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Well said Ben. A PVC bait can be built to suspend, just like any balsa or basswood bait. I've made a few and regretted it because if you get them hung up on the bottom or a tree branch and you are without your lure retriever, your bait is history. Suspending baits do just that suspend, and don't return to the top. Jerry Quote
BIG M Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 All those baits look great Ben, really like the littel wake bait. Personally I don't like suspending cranks and what a pain in the butt it is to build one. It's much easier to add suspend dots to finished crank. Quote
