Super User LgMouthGambler Posted August 6, 2012 Super User Posted August 6, 2012 http://www.bassresou...imano-g-series/ The Curado e is a twin to the chronarchs. No? We'll from your post in this thread. I see you might have done some back pedaling. That's OK we know your slightly biased about Shimano. A proud posse member. I used to be too, So don't get me wrong here! You'll have a tough time getting me to part with my 50e. I'm thrilled with my supertuned citica 201E6 as well. Probably should have kept my 201E6 Curado. I'm not as thrilled with the g's. Maybe a supertuned/upgraded one would change something? Once I sell my old boat I'll be able to get some new stuff. I'll start with a Chronarch 201E5 for my medium cranks for now. Maybe a Core 50mg if the boss doesn't notice. There will be a few other brands mixed in JIC. The new Daiwa Lexa is looking good in its price range. And I just have to try one of the new Revo's(probably the winch). My son wants the new SX. Now if Shimano want to sponser me, Then I'd be too! That was Citica G vs Curado G. We are on Curado E and Curafo G now, and the fact that its not much of a downgrade. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted August 6, 2012 Super User Posted August 6, 2012 While "it may not be much", i believe the basis of most arguments of e vs g is since the curado e is still readily avaliable NIB theres no reason to buy a lesser "newer" version of the curado when the E is without a doubt a better reel when it comes down to it. A downgrade is a downgrade.I'm sure the G is/will be a good reel and some will prefer it but as a poster said before if somebody came up to you and gave you the option of a curado e or curado g most will agree that choice is a no brainer. Technical differences aside i personally feel the biggest mistake they made with the curado g was giving it the cannen body. I may even own one downgrade aside if it werent for that. Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted August 6, 2012 Super User Posted August 6, 2012 Its just a cosmetic design, like a new car body. Shimano has always tried to make the reel series' look similar. Quote
BASSHUNTER1961 Posted August 6, 2012 Author Posted August 6, 2012 I can say that Shimano's customer service is FANTASTIC! I called them Wednesday to tell them I did not receive the accessories with my new Citica 201E. Today I received a package from Shimano with two bottles of oil, tool, manuals, extra brake pads and a bunch of Shimano stickers. This to me is great service, and I will support them by purchasing their reels. Quote

jj'sbassinforfun Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 LMG, I'm willing to give my citica g another try. Point me to a thread or article on supertuning(or should I start my own thread?)! Tell me what parts I can use from an E as well! I'll take it out and beat the chit out of it. If it stands up, I'll take a swing at a buds Curado g thats just sitting on the shelf. I can score it for a song. Sorry for jacking the OP thread! Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted August 6, 2012 Super User Posted August 6, 2012 Super tuning varies from angler to angler. I like to take down the whole reel and clean all the factory grease and lube out of it. Soak the bearings in acetone until all the factory grease is out of them. Then take the spool bearings and put them in a cup and put 1 drop of oil on each side. Then, all the gears I make sure are packed with grease. Some say a little goes a long way, I like mine to be well lubricated. If you have never done this before, make sure you keep the paperwork for the reel handy so you can use it if you lose track of the parts placement. Another option is to send it to DVT, and for a good deal he can do it for you. As far as parts you can use for the G from the E. The only thing would be that you can take the crankshaft bearing from the Curado E and use it to replace the bushing they use in the Citica. Just so you know, you could take the Citica out stock and beat that thing all day long and it will take it. Dont be fooled just because its a G. They still are great reels. Shimano is just putting the reels back to where they should be as far as options/price lineup. When I relubed my Citica G, it was like night and day. Im gonna honestly say that the Curado E is going to be known as the best Curado that Shimano has ever produced, due to the amazing features that Shimano put in it. Unfortunately, since they had to make the adjustment to put it back in perspective, and let the Chronarch take the reigns again, people are set on the E, as am I. Since I own all of the E line up (except for the Chronarch 50E), I will be adding a Curado G to it as well. Ive used it, and I like it, and will tune it my way. Quote
BASSHUNTER1961 Posted August 7, 2012 Author Posted August 7, 2012 LgMouthGambler I'm going to pick up anpther Shimano this week, and would like your opinion. I will buy either the Curado CU201G7 or the Chronarch CH201E7, which one would you recommend? Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted August 7, 2012 Super User Posted August 7, 2012 For the extra $ I would go for the Chronarch. Its got a better drag system, and is a little smoother. I love the Chronarchs ability to cast just about any kind of bait. It also comes with a nice little bag for storing or transporting Quote

Its something I just do since reading DVT's and Proreel's posts(from another forum). I guess the Curado/Citica E ruined me. So I was looking for more. I do have the crank bearing on order and I also have been eyeing spool bearings upgrades. I may try to swap the spool with a Curado G to see if it helps first. I'm sure I can barrow the Curado from my bud for trials. I'll do some diggin! Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted August 7, 2012 Super User Posted August 7, 2012 Yes those orange seals are AMAZING! I have them in my Citica E. First I would worry about just cleaning it out yourself, and then later on down the road spend the extra $ on HP bearings. Get some rigs together, and some good baits. The factory Shimano bearings will serve you for years and years with no problems. Quote
jj'sbassinforfun Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 It doesn't seem to be the spool bearings. It seems draggy/sluggish even with the spool removed. Once the new crank bearing arrives(couple more days) I'll dig deeper into it. Quote

jj'sbassinforfun Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 I probably should start my own thread, But seeing we jacked the heck out of this one I'll continue here. I got home from work and the crankshaft bearing I ordered arrived. I tore into it and replaced the bushing with the bearing. The bushing was very dry and I also noticed the pinion support bearing had some brown stuff coming out of it. I flushed it out with mineral spirits. I packed greased in both the bearings. I assume this is where the sluggishness came from as the bearing was somewhat hard to turn it. Not to mention the dry crank bushing. Put it back together an hit the dock for some casts. Still not as smooth overall as the e or even the same feel. But much better now. I'll get some smooth drag washers and a set of abec 5, 7 or Boca spool bearings. So some super tuning should liven these up a lot! I'll be hitting up my bud for his barely used Curado g and order up some goodies for that too! Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted August 10, 2012 Super User Posted August 10, 2012 I dont pack any other bearing but the AR bearing with grease. All others just get oil. I dont know if that will make a difference for you. Quote
jj'sbassinforfun Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 I pack all the low speed bearings with grease. I can fish them for the whole season and only need to lube the spool bearings as needed. When I used oil on them, I was having to tear into them a few times a season to re-oil them. A trick I got from someone who puts his hands on more reels in a week than I do all season long. To me the reel will stay smoother, also stays quieter much longer and less fiddling on my part. Quote
