Count me in the posse', two Calcutta's, 2 Curado's, and a Citica. This is not a have v. have not question. I want a Chronarch to see how good it is, since it is a level above the Curado. My question is: What does the Core offer that it is basically twice as much as the Chronarch. Is it a durability thing, the lighter weight or just knowing you have the top Shimano? I understand it has more expensive components, but does it fish that much better? I was strictly an Abu guy until I made my first cast with a Calcutta.

Mike

What the Core offers is the incredible lightness of a magnesium reel, you really need to handle one to beleive it, problem is, once you´ve tried one you hardly want anything else. Comes with a price but I think is well worth it.

Sounds good, I can understand that.

Rather have a Core over a Zillion anyday.

You're crazy.

I'm shimano through and through, but the Zillion is a far better reel for moving baits. The ONLY thing the Core has going for it is its weight. I love my Zillions and I won't trade them for anything but a Calais- which I have, and the Zillion is STILL comparable.

I love my Curados, but they aren't perfect. They are inconsistant from one reel to another, but I'm willing to live with that as they perform up to my standards and I can break them down thoroughly to clean. Also, ordering parts from Shimano is easy as well.

I just hope the next generation Curados aren't a step back or I'll be moving on to another brand. I've been playing around with the Lews and they are impressive.

Children must play. When you Boy's become men and have a home and family, you will learn to appreciate the smaller things in life (like a fishing reel). It's amazing how the children on most of the online forums enjoy ruining posts and well, acting their age.

Oh boy, Getting all giddy over a reel that shimano has already discontinued! Once the NOS E's are gone? The Chronarch will set you back over $200. The down graded G series doesn't seem as smooth and feels just that "a downgrade"compared to the E(I'd grab my E series over the G any day).

Personally, I'd rather vest in a company that upgrades their reels and improves the performance while its charging more for them. Old technology usually gets sold at a reduced rate, Because its just that old technology! Not one of the Daiwa, Abu, Lews new stuff is a downgrade and most are complete revamps with more options. The Daiwa Lexa's and the Abu Revo's aren't step backwards reels.

I used to be in the Shimano camp, But I guess I didn't drink the cool-aide!

I'd like to hear what the other members that have fished both the E and G series have to say.

Its not just the bearings in the handle IMHO. The G's just feel like a Caenan in sheeps clothing. Plus the Caenan's reliability has been less than steller. I'm actually afraid to fish my G series(both citica and curado) all that hard! Will they fail like the Caenan's?

Might explain why the E series Curado's are selling for more(on ebay) now than they did before! You might have a pot of gold if you have a new in box(unused) Curado. I sold a used one for close to what I paid for it new.

I have a Citica G, and it sees a lot of use being my Spook reel. I have no problems with it. Tore it down and lubed it my way and it feels better than new. The next reel that i pllan to purchase is the Chronarch 50E for my spinnerbaits, but after that I will be grabbing a Curado G for my collection as well. I have no doubts of them, Ive seen some pretty big fish pulled with them and no problems. I would still rather fish that than a Lews knowing Shimanos design is proven.

X2.... I will now be switching over to all Shimano baitcast reels. I took a good look at the Citica and Curado G Seires and they are fine reels. They do not look or feel cheap, and they are smooth.

since you've never owned an E7 your not gonna know the difference anyways now are ya?

I have a Citica E and the G is not much different if at all, so I doubt the E7 is any different. I just got back from looking at the Carado and Citica G and they will be fine for my inteneded use. They both felt as smooth as my E seires.

Personally, the g series curado body felt too large and awkard with their cannen body. The refinement wasnt there to give me a reason to switch from a proven design. The G series reels wwill probably work and perform just fine but those of us that use the E (not all people) understand the disappointment. All of my 201 and 51E curados still perform flawlessly and are always enjoyable to fish. However the only "citica" i own now is 2 curados /w citica gears so i cant speak about citica Es.

LMG still needs some cores. calaiseseseseseses, tranxes/calcuttas for saltwater and a few caenans for the baby mommas

Shimano owes him these luxuries for his online marketing campaign , they should throw in some Cumaras also for good measure

The Chronarch E is a totally different horse.Citica is a great reel for intro users, Curado a bit better, and the Chronarch......well, that is sweetness.

The Curado e is a twin to the chronarchs. No?

We'll from your post in this thread. I see you might have done some back pedaling. That's OK we know your slightly biased about Shimano. A proud posse member. I used to be too, So don't get me wrong here! You'll have a tough time getting me to part with my 50e. I'm thrilled with my supertuned citica 201E6 as well. Probably should have kept my 201E6 Curado. I'm not as thrilled with the g's. Maybe a supertuned/upgraded one would change something?

Once I sell my old boat I'll be able to get some new stuff. I'll start with a Chronarch 201E5 for my medium cranks for now. Maybe a Core 50mg if the boss doesn't notice. There will be a few other brands mixed in JIC. The new Daiwa Lexa is looking good in its price range. And I just have to try one of the new Revo's(probably the winch). My son wants the new SX.

Now if Shimano want to sponser me, Then I'd be :respect-059: too! :eyebrows:
