Branden Schultz, who is a NorthStar contributor, had the opportunity to test and review our up coming Black Series jigs over the weekend. Here are a few pictures of the damage he was able to do and a review that Branden wrote up on his experience. Enjoy!

"My first thought after seeing the new black series jig was being impressed with the overall thickness of the jig. The extra strands really fill out the jig and I like the bulkiness. The head had a nice matte finish and the hook was nice and sturdy. After I saw the jig in the water I knew it was a winner. The outside rubber skirting flared out while the inside silicone skirting staid nice and compact. This jig has a different look than any other I have seen and to say i was impressed is an understatement. It looks much more "alive" in the water and has great action. Another thing I noticed was the fall rate of this jig was slightly slower than a regular jig, like a premier, for example. The bulkiness really helps slow down the fall rate which is perfect for pitching around shallow cover. This way I can use a 1/2oz black series jig, which is easier to pitch than say a 3/8oz jig, but still have similar fall rates. This gives the fish more time to react to the lure as its coming down into the water column. Also the 1/2oz will fall better into cover and not get hung up as much since there is more weight to the jig. Giving the fish a slightly new look is a big bonus when fishing any water. With the black series you can use a well known big fish lure, the jig, with a new look that will tempt fish into biting. After fishing the black series extensively for a week I can tell you that this jig was getting bite when other jigs would not produce."

Great fish branden!! Reading the reveiw has got me so much more excited to use these things, the part about how the skirt stays compact in and spreads wide on the outside strands sounds awesome. Can't wait to get mine !!! Sounds like you got another winner north star.

chop chop  I'm in need of new jigs, I lost my nephew's last Premier OkeeChobee Flame last weekend. The bite was so hot that day I forgot to retie :cry3:

Sam,

OkeeChobee Flame is probably my favorite color not named new gill. Premier jigs are still going to have their time and place (Faster fall rate) and so I would still get a few replacements my freind.

I just picked up a few, giving the hair jig a try. I was trying to hold out to order a few of the Black Series.

Not sure how old the last set of NorthStar jigs I had are got them as a gift some time ago. My 13 year old nephew got his hands on them and well now there "his". Any way thanks, your jig is to blame for getting my nephew hooked, :laugh5: so when I drop that 20k on a new tracker I know to blame you every month I have to make the payment :hahaha-024:

Sam,

That is awesome! Your nephew has good taste and we're glad we could help out ;)

Did you get football head hair jigs? Try dragging those babies around rock in deeper water when the bite is slow...The largies rarely see this presentation and can really get them excited.

Oh yeah, chris sent me a few of these a while ago...guess I was sort of in the testing group. Haven't fished much this summer, but the few times I threw that jig I was really impressed. I like how thick the head paint is too.

I don't think I've fished the production model of this, but I've fished a rubber/silicone jig that Christ had sent me a while back. It's a jig I did really well on at T-Rock last fall, and have won a couple on this year. It concerns me a little bit, because I"m down to just two! I'm sure it'll be a winner, I've done well with all the other Northstar's, can't hurt to have another tool in the shed.

Wait till you see some of the color combinations we have :) I think that will be the most impressive thing about the Black Series.

Yeah, even though we have always been happy with our paint finishes, the matte finish on the black series increases the durability even more.

very nice northstar. what is the release date on the black series jigs?

Yes vinny it is awesome,it really is. I get more enjoyment out of him landing a big bass then when I do (think that's a sign of getting old) and yes on the football head on the hair jigs. I've got a rock pond in mind for them. Looking forward to putting the hair jig to the test on the DD 's that lurk in that pond and Mabey get a new personal best.

Summer fishing on south Florida cannel systems can be tuff in my experience. To be honest with you this time of the year I'm after peacock bass on a fly rod, but when I find good structure you can bet that a NorthStar rig is banging away on it.

I am looking forward to the release and have been a big premier and swim and flip guy.... so curious to see where this fits in for me (have hair and swim ones too)

My question is why the sept. 1 date? I am happy to have it come out sooner, but was this aiming for fall fishing? Why not go with the winter of next year when all the new stuff comes out?

That is not a complaint or criticism, just a curiosity.....

Think of it as NorthStar's after ICAST release! Not to say this jig is going only excel in a specific season, but we really think the black series is going the be the best fall jig ever produced...the thicker skirt and rubber/silicone combo produces a tantalizing fall. That paired with the flair of the skirt that mimics a craw in the defensive position that the bass have never seen and you have a perfect fall jig...We cannot wait to see how our customers catch them on the black series!

Are you guys expecting to be able to keep them in stock after the initial release? I will try and get the order out asap when they are listed ;)

Yes, we're currently building up an inventory, but like with any new product release, we only have a guesstimated amount that we will sell. That could be too high or low, so I would recommend ordering on the release day or shortly there after.
