Ok so i was at a new place i found fihsing today and the water was pretty darn clear. There was all kinds of trees, plants, bushes and stuff in the water along with some matted junk on top in certain places. When i walk up to the bank i see a ton of fish, mainly panfish but they all scattered and i saw some little fish that im not sure if they are fry or bait. The looked a little too big to be bait. It was a light color and vertically along the tail was black on the edge. I am wondering if these are the young o the year LM Bass? Looked like a stripe down the side also. There were tons of them watching my frog as i was reeling it and killing it and letting in sort of sink. They would get really close and when i would twitch it they would swim away.

Also what baits are good in heavy weed, grass, tree cover? I dont even know how to explain what all was in there because it was like a forest underwater. I only used topwater today because i didnt want to get hung up alot. Thanks!

not good with weeds but im sure someone here could help you. you could always throw jigs into the underwater trees.

I would say top water was a good choice. Rig up some plastics weedles and carolina rig them. Sounds like you are new to this and that is an easy wat to start. Some poeople will tell you to use heavy floro others will say braid. Try what you like....

Since you mentioned about heavy grass. You could use any kind of jig and trailer. Cast to your destination and let it fall to the bottom then lift your rod to get the jig with the skirt and the trailer lure to get some movement. Im pretty sure you can look up on youtube by typing Bass Jigging and all kinds of video lists will come up and you will learn several tips from the pros.

Thanks,

Dilly.

Fish seem to be little bass from this year's hatch. The black line running down their sides is a give away.

The bass are in the weeds, grass, wood and other structure so if you want to catch them you will have to fish in these areas.

Losing baits is a part of bass fishing. Don't get upset if you get hung up and have to cut the line. Bring a second baitcater or spinning reel ready to replace the one you are using if you start to run out of line or get a big backlash in your baitcater.

You will also need to bring a needle nose pliers with you to help remove hooks.

Hide hook inside plastic. Look up Texas rigging in the articles on this site or on YouTube to learn how to rig your plastics weedless. You can also purchase weedless hooks that can help minimize hangups. Not prevent them, but help minimize them.

So what to throw? Try these plastics:

Senkos

Finesse Worms

Trick Worms

Creatur Baits

Baby Brush Hogs

Rage Tail Craws and anything Rage Tail you want to throw

Topwaters:

Cavitron buzzbaits

Poppers

Spooks, baby and regular

Frogs

Pink or White weightless trick worms

Senkos dragged across pads and grass

Wake Baits

Try a "wake bait" like a Mann's Minus One or other shallow running topwater crankbait.

Spinnerbait

Crankbait with the rear hook removed

Flip and pitch the plastics with the hook point just under the plastic's skin into the area you want to fish. You can go Texas or wacky rig. I suggest going wacky with a Senko, trick worm or Baby Brush Hog. If you don't know how to flip and pitch then look them up on YouTube.

A Cavitron buzzbait may work early in the morining right before and during sunrise. Same goes for your frog. Cast them all over the area and try not to lose them.

Remember, the bass will be under and in the weeds and grass and among the wood. The more wood and grass you have the more shelter and ambush points the bass will enjoy.

You have to experiment. Keep a daily log of what you throw, weather conditions, water temperature, what you catch, etc. so you will have a history and you can refer back to it as the months go by.

You do not show us where you live so we are actually shooting in the dark. If you live in the beautiful and sunny south or west the fishing conditions will be different than in the cold and dark northern areas. So add your location to your avatar so we can give you more detailed assistance.

bass eat things that are up to half their body length so those fry are going to be on the menu for quite awhile.

if you can see them they can see you.camo or at the very least earth tones will help with spooking some.

polarized sunglasses will help you see in the water better.

make you first few cast while standing way back from the waters edge.

So i did ok on my topwatr frog. Its a ragetail green with a white belly. I bought some zoom super flukes in pearl. They look like they will work pretty well since they mimick alot of what i am seeing swimming aroiund, they are the same size just about. I plan on throwing them weightless with my spinning rod. Here is a pic to give you guys an idea of what the water looks like. The pond is alot bigger than the pic but looks like this all the way around even in the middle as much as i can see. The water is pretty clear to so its cool seeing the fish. Thanks for the help you guys!post-38683-0-23985600-1343959364_thumb.p

I would throw a trig weightless Senko spinner bait and a jig with a rage tail claw. On the outer edges of the weed beds. Lately thats where I have caught 90% of my bass
