Super User Sam Posted July 31, 2012 Super User Posted July 31, 2012 Heard on the radio today that Penn State is considering making some changes to its football uniform. The suggested changes were not given however the radio guys said it may be with the helmet design. So I was thinking, which is a bad thing for me to do as I can be very creative, what changes could Penn State make to their uniforms? Two changes came to mind immediately. The first is to have mesh pants so you can see through them. The second change is for the helmet but I can't put it in writing as this is a family orienated forum. But it is funny. The Penn State uniform has been the same since the world was water and I hope they don't change it. When you are surfing the football games on TV you can pick out the Nittany Lions right away, as you can with LSU and Tennessee. Anyone out there heard about the proposed changes and what they may be? If so, let us know. If not, let us know. And if you have any "clean" changes please share them with us. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted July 31, 2012 Super User Posted July 31, 2012 For starters -- names on the jerseys I think this is a good idea for PSU. Their old uniform was part of their brand, and that brand has been significantly tarnished. Time for some new blood. Quote
shootermcbob Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 I can see things going either way. Leave it the same because of WHAT it stands for ...togetherness, teamwork, simple execution...not WHO it stands for. Or, they could make some SMALL changes, add names, maybe just tinker with the look a bit...but leave color scheme same...just my opinion. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 31, 2012 Super User Posted July 31, 2012 How 'bout something along this line: http://www.buy.com/prod/orange-prisoner-jail-bird-inmate-jumpsuit-costume/217279173.html?listingId=106833989 1 Quote

My first thought was keeping their same colors but in stripes. Can't do that though, because there's already a bunch a blind guys on the field wearing those. Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted July 31, 2012 Super User Posted July 31, 2012 How about the players wear choir boy uniforms and the coaches wear priest outfits. If that doesnt work, the coaches can wear just a towel around their waist. Quote
Captain Obvious Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 How about the players wear choir boy uniforms and the coaches wear priest outfits.... Sorry but that seems to cross the religious boundaries there man. I'm ok with a little joke but on a subject like this that feels like its aiming a little to low. Capt.O Quote

jwhowells Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 As a Penn State fan I've been wanting a uniform change for a long time now. It looks like it might happen soon. Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 1, 2012 Author Super User Posted August 1, 2012 JW, so you have heard or read about the PSU uniform change? I hope they don't go to Nike for those wild, razy and ugly uniforms Nike give the teams for one game a year. The ones LSU had to wear two times were just plain awful. Or that PSU matches those ugly Maryland uniforms with all the blocks and colors. They have not helped the turtles have a better winning record, but they are Maryland in the ACC so what can you expect? I like the PSU uniforms just the way they are and think making any change is a bad idea. Tradition. PSU is all about tradition. Not bad tradition but good tridation. I hate when schools change traditions that have been part of their program for years. If PSU wants to make a change then let's get a live Nittany Lion and let it loose in the stadium before the games. That would liven up the place. Let us know what you hear and find out to keep us updated. Thanks. Quote
jwhowells Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 here is one rumor I saw. I think of they change this might be the way to go. I would hope that they keep the black shoes though. http://www.blackshoediaries.com/2012/7/26/3188454/ive-been-hearing-a-lot-of-rumors-of-new-uniforms-i-dont-know-who-made Quote
shootermcbob Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 That's kinda what I had in mind...keep same color scheme...but update it a bit. I think that looks good. Wow, an Ohio State fan marking post #1000 on the Penn State uniforms... Quote
jwhowells Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 The Ohio State vs Penn State will be the highest rated Big 10 game this year even though both teams are on probation. Quote
shootermcbob Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 What happened at Ohio State looks a whole lot less serious in the overall scheme of things. They can call the game this year.....wait for it.... "Liar, Liar, pants on fire bowl" Quote
shootermcbob Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Was two good lessons for my kids though, MOST people thought both JoePa and Jim Tressel were outstanding human beings, role models for the way we should behave....NOT SO FAST. I am not in their shoes, apparently they both lied to protect their programs....Tressel covering his own rear and his players, JoePa apparently lied to do the same, but with much more dire consequences. Lesson, people are RARELY what they seem. Always keep a guarded eye. Quote

"Liar, Liar, pants on fire bowl" I think what happened at Ohio State is definatelt a lot less serious than what has happened at numerous colleges. shootermcbob Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 I agree with you, OSU really hurt no one but themselves, and the infractions were minor. They were not trying to "buy" players and I don't think a few tattoos gave them a competitive advantage. But when the Head Coach lies, and is caught in it, Heads roll. Quote
MT2 Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 I feel bad for the CURRENT Penn St, coaches, staff and players. What did they do, and really they are the ones being punished. Granted the players can leave, but some wont, some cant. And what if you grew up dreaming of playing for Penn St. Anyone want to guess on what number coach they are on when they come off probation? Im not saying something shouldnt of been done, but time after time. The people who did wrong basically walk away with a slap on the wrist and the current roster and future recruits get hurt. Is there a way to fix it, probably not. Maybe install some type of rule for example of the Tressel situation if another school hires him he is suspended x amount of games. Really be no diffrent than when Ricky Williams returned to the Dolphins after his failed drug tests. Bottom line the NCAA really needs to look at itself, it's gotten to a point of no return in my opinion. I think stiff penaltys could be key to fixing issues. They all have to be the type where the top dogs at the U is keeping tighter tabs on players and coaches. Imagine if USC or OSU got similar penaltys to what PSU just received. Its going to cost more than the head coach's head. And the next guy should know if he allows something similar to occur its his head first. Look at IU basketball, I live just a couple hours from Bloomington, but Im a Louisville fan. First few years after the book was thrown at them, they was begging anyone who could dribble to walk on. It's that way now at Ohio State, current players had NOTHING to do with coach lying, same for most every program that gets punished. I guess the thinking is if punishment hurts the "pocketbook", maybe coaches, players, agents, boosters will stay clean. NEWSFLASH...it's not working. If the NCAA had resources, I believe they would find MAJOR violations with players receiving extra benefits at EVERY division 1 football program. The key...taken from John Calipari's playbook....PLAUSIBLE DENIABILITY. Quote
MT2 Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Yea, there is no doubting this, in away it almost feels like the NCAA gets upset cos thats money they dont get. Wonder what would happen if some rich dudes, maybe someone like Donald Trump(USFL) or Vince McMahon(XFL). Elected to create a Amatuer Football League, took these kids before they enrolled into college and paid them. When they hit the right age, those kids then could enter the NFL Draft. For one, you be competeing vs the NCAA game more so than the NFL. Which depending on your market could be at least more do-able. Also, it could make the NCAA game in time back to a level of fair play and not so many dirty scams. I mean your not going to be able to do 30-40 AFL teams especially out of the gate. Probably 10-12, set large rosters maybe 60-75. And the kids who really see $$$ ala, totaly baised on reports Ive heard or read, Reggie Bush and Cam Newton. Can just skip the college game all together, play ball for 2, 3 heck 5 years at the AFL then go enter the NFL Draft. Quote

Super User Sam Posted August 8, 2012 Author Super User Posted August 8, 2012 To give the NCCA some strong support to help curb infractions the professional sports leagues need to join the NCAA and ban any and all players who broke NCAA rules from their leagues for five years. Coaches involved would be banned from coaching college and professional teams for five years. This will not happen due to the money generated by professional sports and the pros need the college players to help continue to generate the income and profit. Quote
