I'm curious as to how the new St. Croix rods stack up to their older rods? I have a Legend Series IMS graphite that is 15-18 years old and I love it. I'm interested in a new Premier, and I'm wondering if I will be disappointed in the performance compared to my Legend. TAI

I think you should consider the Avid Series instead.

Your old legend will compare better to an avid than a premier.

Thanks..... I love my old Legend, but it's one of my frog rods. I'm looking into a 7' plus M or ML for worms, jigs and pretty much an all-around rod.

XXXXX Avid 7' MF it won't be a Legend Elite, but you will be happy with it, excellent for what you say you want it for. better warranty, better material, better sensitivity than the premier, for about $60.00 more.

I love my Avids, this sounds dumb, but Ilike them better than my Legends. The Legends seem tip heavy to me.

I am a loyal, very happy St. Croix rod owner. All of my rods that I fish with are St. Croix. I have 2 Triumphs, 2 Mojo, 1 Avid, 1 Premier, and a Rage. I haven't caved into a Legend of any sort simply for the money. I have yet to break any of my rods, and they're all in outstanding shape. Honestly, no matter what class of St. Croix you go with, they are worth every penny.

Since Avid is being discussed the most, I have the 6'8" Medium XF avid spinning rod for finesse fishing. The rod is amazingly sensitive. If you're grip choice is not a factor and you're good with cork, go with the Avid.

I have to post again here as I finally figured out this Legend ain't good enough????????? I had a freind a couple years ago tell me how sorry his legend was compared to his Avid, and wasn't as good as his premier either???

I couldn't believe someone on morphine couldn't tell how much better a legend was, but when he showed it to me he was right, it was a dog compared to the Avid. The reason was that was all it was a legend series!!! not a Legend Elite or Legend Extreme, or (Legend Ultra, fly rod only) !!!!! At one time St. Croix made a very inexpensive line called a Legend Series, many who aren't as familiar to St. Croix as some of us Croix Boy's, think they are the top end Elites and Extremes, sorry the price should have been the giveaway.. If it Blank Material ain't SCIV, or SCV or better it ain't the real Legend!!!

So I will make this clear, you can't find a tip heavy Legend Elite or Legend Extreme, and I will assure no avid in the same length and power/action, will perform as well, or be as light, as strong and as sensitive as the Top End Legend Elite or Legend Extreme!! NO WAY, and I for one who owns over 20 Avids and Legends will take the high end Legend's every time over the Avids. I'm sorry but there ain't a better rod on the market in my book, Make mine Legend Elite, as I like full cork!! WORTH EVERY PENNY!!

I will make an offer to anyone with a Legend Extreme or Elite, if you want to trade it for a better feeling to you Avid in the same length and power/action, I'll trade you even up if I have the same Avid, I'd love to own all Elites or Extremes and no Avids, so let me help you out! we'll see how many like the Avid more here!!

I love my xtremes to death and wouldnt trade them but that statement is false. I cant speak for the elite but there are some xtremes that are tip heavy. Kind of a give and take /w split grips.

how many like the Avid more here!!

For my pennies the Avid is a better value thats why Im more pleased with it.. To me there isnt $130 difference in sensitivity nor balance with a stradic 1000. I dont have like rods Elites dont come in the Avid I have. Im comparing Avid 8'ML Mod to 7' 6" MF. Maybe a 7'6" ML F Elite would WOW me but the MF just doesnt. The Avid balances about 3/8" closer to the reel than the Elite does not much at all really to notice a difference. There is just a point of diminishing returns and the Avid is that point I feel. I would feel better telling a person to pay full price for an Avid more so than I would an Elite. I wouldnt pay full price for an Elite I would look at other brands. If I had to put a price on it I would say $250 max is what I would be comfortable paying for an Elite luckily though I only paid $130 for mine out of the bargain room.

Ah I see, and I agree, that is why I don't have over 20 Legends!! Money, and I agree, sometimes we all have to settle for what we can afford, and that is my case, if money were no option I would have all legends, I know it isn't always a big enough difference to spend the premium price for the best, but if price were equal, St. Croix would never sell an Avid. I like my Avids and I like em enough, that if I could the only Loomis I own would be traded for an Avid. an IMX 6' LF
