Follow-up Baits??

I hear a lot about follow-up baits which usually translates into throwing a worm after you miss a strike on a crankbait or spinnerbait. Is there more to this strategy and what factors do you consider?

i will always throw 3-4 baits in a place that i know is holding fish. That said i always fish with 4 rods so i will cast each into a spot. If i miss on a fast bait ( crankbait, spinnerbait ) I will throe in a plastic and vise versa. After a miss on a spinnerbait a hollow belly berkley swimbait almost always works. Also throwing a senko or a tube seems to work good too.

I follow up my top water misses with a Zoom Trick Worm.

I never thought it made a lot of difference. When you follow up after, say, a missed topwater strike, you've located a fish that's aggressive to some degree and I don't think they're that fussy whether it's a tube, worm, Senko, jerkbait or whatever. The most important thing, in my opinion, is getting something back into that spot ASAP.

I'll jig a 5" Senko around a little bit after I miss a topwater fish.

While on the topic of follow up baits, I just got my first jig bite today, two feet from shore it came unbuttoned.  Do any of you follow up a missed jig bite? With what?

I had a lot of luck this past year fishing a SPRO bronzeye frog and following missed strikes with a wacky rigged senko....

most of the time if the bass was interested it would be taken almost when it hit the water behind the frog...
