BASSHUNTER1961 Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 Does anyone use this reel, and how does it stack up to the PQ? I'm going to pick up another reel today, and the Extreme is on sale for $59.00 It willcome down to the Extreme or the Abu Black Max as I do not want to spend more than $60.00 at this time. TIA !!! Super User LgMouthGambler Posted July 29, 2012 Super User Posted July 29, 2012 I had the Extreme, but the new low profile one. Its a nice smooth reel. I would get it over the Abu. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted July 29, 2012 Super User Posted July 29, 2012 I've got two of them and like them - a lot. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted July 29, 2012 Global Moderator Posted July 29, 2012 I just wish they had cent brakes instead of mag. I have to turn mine way up to 8 to control backlashes, but thats just me. I put 50# braid on mine and use it just for flipping jigs. Mike Quote
BassCats Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 The new ones come with duel braking just like the PQ. I had my extreme with magnetic brakes for six years before I gave it to a friend. It out lasted my pfluegers and my okumas. Quote
buzzfrog Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 i love mine, next best thing in bps brand under PQ Quote
yoyoman Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 i have two of them for about 4 years. good reels for the price. one of them i had to repair the pawl and worm gear though but has had no problems otherwise. Quote
RyneB Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 i bought one 3 years ago and never really liked it. I didnt mind it, but then i bought a Revo S and most of my BPS reels didnt see much use. I have all Revo Ss now, but still have my original BPS reels i bought when i first started bass fishing. I have an Extreme, Rick Clunn (blue one), and Pro Lite Finesse. The Pro Lite is my favorite and the Extreme is my least. When i purchased it i got the swimbait reel with the extra wide spool and i think thats why im not a fan of it. I can honestly say the reel has had no problems at all, it just doesnt feel as nice as my Revo Ss. But for price, you cant go wrong. Quote
BASSHUNTER1961 Posted July 29, 2012 Author Posted July 29, 2012 Thanks for all the feedback! I decided to go with the Black Max. I already had one and liked so I said "the devil I know is better than the devil I don't". Over the winter I will upgrade all my gear, and I will have plenty of back-up gear, and enough for my son to rip through as well LOL..... Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted July 30, 2012 Super User Posted July 30, 2012 Good reels for the price, not as good as the PQ though. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted July 30, 2012 Super User Posted July 30, 2012 The newer low profile extremes have Dual Braking, but the cent. brakes ARE NOT adjustable. They will have 4 on for ever, and ever, and ever. Quote

I really feel the Black Max is as good of a reel as you can buy for $50.00 To be totally honest, both my Black reels cast and retrieve smoother than my Pro Qualifier. Quote
