Just curious as to how many use spinning gear for froggin? I use both baitcast and spinning gear when throwing frogs, and both work fine. What rods are you using, and what are the specs? My frog rigs are:

St. Croix Ledgend Series 6'6" MH XF, BPS Pro Qualifier and 50# Power Pro (red).

Shimano Sellus 7'2" MH XF Pflueger President 30# Power Pro (green).

My dad is spinning only, and he just uses a standard 7' MH/F rod. Would he like a heavy rod for it? Most likely. But how often do you see a freshwater spinning rod, thats a H?

You can use either one, the difference with the casting is the ability to get a more accurate cast due to being able to stop the spool with your thumb.

I am spinning only. My frog setup is a 6'6" MH/F premier with a 35 size Pflueger Medalist. To me the reel is key. I no longer use graphite bodied reels. But the first one I replaced was the reel for the frog rod. Graphite bodies seemed to flex to much for my liking when pulling in a big one covered in salad.

I use spinning for frogging as well. The MH Bionic Blade actually has a nice action for it, just soft enough but with a good back bone. I've never had a problem with accuracy with spinning.

As all my fishing, it's spinning gear. I'm not a frog thrower, except when I go for snakeheads, for that I'm using an older 4000 spheros that had 20# braid on it in perfect condition, the rod is a bass tourney 7' med 8/17 that I bought for bonita, snakeheads have not been a problem in handling.

That medalist may be one of the best reels I ever used, mine is a 5000, the negative for me is 18oz. I replaced it with a lighter reel, actually one with a stronger drag, but so far it isn't quite as good as the medalist.

You are right about the weight...they aren't the lightest reels. But they are the toughest reel around and both mine ( I also have a size 30 on my swimbait/spinnerbait rod ) are smooth as butter.

I also use a spinning rod for frog baits. It's an old MH Lightning rod. Maybe 20-30 casts per trip, alot of splashes, few hookups.

I have tried baitcasters but frankly, I can't cast them. I use 'em for flippin', underhanded.
