NoBassPro Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Whats the best flourocarbon line to use on spinning reels? These are used for finesse presentations, and I have no desire to use braid with a leader or anything like that. I have used a few different brands of flouro and always end up with more line twist/management problems than normal. I will be spooling up with 4-10 lb test on different reels if that matters. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted July 28, 2012 Super User Posted July 28, 2012 What size reel are you using? As a general rule, the bigger the spool, the heavier line you can use. Also, how much are you willing to spend? Nothing beats Tatsu, but it's expensive. For any finesse tactic, I find that Seaguar InvizX is simply the best out there. I have some 8# on my 50E and it's really a dream. Depending on spool size, I would try 6 or 8 pound InvizX. Quote
NoBassPro Posted July 28, 2012 Author Posted July 28, 2012 Yes, I know what size line I can put on my reels, thats not what I asked. Flouro on spinning and fouro on baitcasting are two different things as far as I'm concerned. The wiriness of it makes it a little harder to handle on spinning, which is why I ask this question. I asked the size of your reel to give you a recommendation of what size will handle with less issues, not about what size you can put on your reel. So I will just make little chart so to speak. Under size 2500. 6# Invizx 2500 and 3000 size. 8# Invizx 3500 and bigger. 10# Invizx Quote

Second, all I want to know is which lines handle best on spinning reels. Third, you are making recommendations based off of a 50e baitcasting reel. Have you used 4# Tatsu on a spinning reel? If so, how did it work for you? Thats what I want to know. Quote

I know all companies are slightly different, but most are generally the same size. I was simply trying to recommend you a good size for your spinning reels. But FWIW, and low memory line will do just fine on a spinning reel in the correct lb. test in correlation with the reel size. And I wasn't making a recommendation of line based on my 50e. I mentioned that because I use it for finesse tactics (which you mentioned) and it has very low memory (A plus for spinning reels) which makes it very good on my 50e. I was not basing any recommendation on me using it on a 50e. I have several spinning reels spooled up with InvizX, and I have found it to be the best for 20$ and under. Quote

Thanks, that is what I wanted to know, the memory is a b---- on spinning reels, and I have more faith in opinions based on usage than opinions based on hearsay. Hope you understand. Quote
Quillback Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 I also use Invisx on my spinning reels, my only advice would be to not fully spool it, maybe spool it to an 1/8 or a 1/16" inch away from the edge of the spool. Seems when I spool it to the very edge I end up getting a birdsnest and stripping off some line. Quote
NitroZ9 Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Your issues are exactly why I don't use straight flouro. on my spinning reels when fishing light line. I started using braid with a flouro. leader a number of years ago and never looked back. It makes a huge difference in line manageability. If you continue using straight flouro., the one tip I will give you is to put some KVD Line & Lure on your line before each trip. It was developed specifically for flouro. and braid and will really help the manageability of your line. It also is water based, not petroleum based like the others. Quote
