Adam Caudle Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 I wrenched my thumb pretty bad a couple days ago when my buddy's Jitterbug's trailer hook caught the edge of our boat and almost jerked the rod out of my hands. Quote
shootermcbob Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Had really bad eye strain one day last summer when this really nice lady in a small bikini decided to oil herself up as her husband idled past where I was fishing. I believed she was putting on a show for me so I felt it would be rude NOT to watch, and watch, and watch. 4 Quote
DILLY07 Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 I remember I had a near miss accident before. I was fishing a pond and was doing flipping and pitching under this good sized log. The hawgs were biting and they were on the frenzy. I had nice bite, then i did the hookset then I pulled it so hard so I can capture the bass. I missed the hookset and the jig went flying and hooked on my hat. If I was not wearing my hat. I'm sure the hook would be stuck on my head. Whew close call! Hope your okay! Quote
Matthew Veillion Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Flipping a 1/2 ounce jig and i got caught on a log and pulled it out really hard and it came back and popped me dead in the forehead. Worst bruise ever Quote

Periods and commas are your friend Worst injury was yanking a 1oz jig so hard it bent the hook, went airborne, and caught me square in the Adams apple. After gagging for a few and attempting not to pass out, I tried to play it off like nothing happened. Nope everyone seen it! Quote
11justin22 Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 When I was 6 I went to threw a rattletrap with 3 foot of slack on the end of my line..... The back treble went through my earlobe ( I didn't keep it pierced )and the rear treble came around and slapped into my eyebrow. I freaked out and threw my rod into the lake so then it was pulling on the trap stuck to my head. Bad day. I have been hit several times from jigs. Mostly dad getting stuck and jerking on it like a crazy man and then the jig comes flying back and hits me. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted July 28, 2012 Super User Posted July 28, 2012 Last Fall I was working a real brute of a fatty into the net as carefully as I could. Was definitely a PB crank bait bass - when suddenly she caught a second wind, blasted herself air-born and threw the hook - Broke my heart. A-Jay Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted July 28, 2012 Super User Posted July 28, 2012 Last year I had a crank bait dig 2 trebles into my forehead and temple performed surgery right there in the canoe and kept on fishing. 1 Quote

Super User clayton86 Posted July 28, 2012 Super User Posted July 28, 2012 I remembered a second bad injury I had when I was about 12 and my dad showed me the ole fishing line around the hook and yank trick after having to cut a pair of hip waders up. I was like 12ish salmon fishing and me in all of my wisdom at that age put my lures in a zip lock bag. Well all would be fine and dandy if the said lures weren't spoons with trebles. My dad met me behind the tressel and I was on the opposite side as him so I crossed creek when one of the spoons popped threw the bag then one point into my leg the other threw the wader why i had the bag stuffed in my waders idk I'm not the brightest crayon in the box lol. I hobbled over to my dad where he was laughing at me and cut the one out with his pocket knife the other he had me cut some line and did the little trick around the hook bend and yanked that one out. Man did that hurt and boy was I a dumb ass lol but I don't think iv learned my lesson I'm still known to put lures in pockets with exposed hooks I should start doing the eye glass container trick. "Lunker Hunter" Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Ok I have had two fishing injuries. First one involved me and my son taking out the jon boat, we launched in our cove and as usual I jump in a push off with the oar. Well this time as I am turning to sit down we hit the stump that sticks out of the lake and over I go hitting my back on the stump. This story of course is told to whoever will listen. The second was bank fishing and hung up on a log in the water of course a pulled and pulled turned and pulled some more then the crank bait released and smacked me in the upper thigh. I did not realize at first that it stuck but it did. Everything I tried to get the hook out did not work. I eventually had to walk up to the house and enlist the help of the wife still not luck had to go to the hospital the have it removed. So now the family tells everyone I got a hook stuck in my A**. flyeaglesfly5186 Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 Fish hooked myself through the cheek with a 3/0 hook about two months ago. Clipped the barb end and eye end, pushed it through. Good thing I have wire cutters in the vest while wading. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 29, 2012 Global Moderator Posted July 29, 2012 Fishing off an old, abandoned dock I had a board break and I fell through and landed on the concrete slab under it after a 4-5 foot drop. I was all scraped and bruised up. Probably the funniest one was night fishing one night. I was walking down the bank and smelled the dead carp before I realized there was a large raccoon feeding on that dead carp. He growled and my headlamp caught him right before he charged me. I headed down the bank and down hill and dove over a big blackberry bush, that I didn't entirely clear, and landed at the waters edge, face down, in some slimy, stinky mud. I don't know if he figured he'd chased me far enough or maybe he was laughing so hard he couldn't run anymore but the raccoon was back over eating the carp. I was scratched up and bleeding from the stickers on the blackberry bush and I smelled terrible from the mud I was covered head to toe in. I think I probably injured my pride about as bad as anything on that one. 2 Quote

Super User BassinLou Posted July 29, 2012 Super User Posted July 29, 2012 When I was young kid my father was going to cast his jerk bait and he didn't notice I walked up behind him. The jerkbait hooked itself right into my cheek. Needless to say, I have been hooked ever since. Quote
Wachati Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 Last year I was trying to remove a crankbait where the bottom treble was partially swallowed. Forgetting my pliers, I decided I would stick my hand down its mouth and try to free the hook. About 8 seconds into this the fish decides to have a violent shake episode sending the top treble hook into my thumb. So I am now in a panic bc i have my hand in its mouth attached to a hook which is attached to him. I decide to just pull the crank as hard as I could and it finally came out without any more violent shaking episodes . I then proceeded to try and pull the hook out of my finger for about an hour but couldn't get it to budge. Had to go to the ER and have it taken out. The worst part was having to walk away knowing the fishing day was over, one of the best 3 hours of fishing I've ever experienced, so it was worth it. Quote
GoTakeANap Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 i was fishing in a pond with a couple of my friends. i wanna say my age was around 15 years old. well on to the point. i had a crankbait in my hand tying it on my line and my friend yanked his rod to set the hook. when he did, the boat moved and i lost my balance and i fell. the treble hook went into my index finger. had to go to the er to get it cut out of my finger. not fun. We talked one of my cousins into hanging all of his lures from his belt loop. Look, we said, you wont have to carry your tackle box, the baits will be right there, all you have to do is unhook the one you want and put the one you aren't using at the bottom. Well, by the time we got to where we planned on fishing half the treble hooks were already through his jeans and poking him. By the time we got back he couldn't even unzip his pants. I'm not sure where all the hooks went, but he was crying, my uncle was yelling, and my other cousin and I decided it would be a good time to go hide for awhile. I know he ended up being in pain for awhile, but it didn't require a trip to the hospital. Quote
Shane Procell Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 Broke my foot chaseing my rod on some jetties. Big red fish caught me off guard. Caused me to miss a couple months work. Very expensive accident. 5" slice to the calf muscle with a fillet knife on the way to a swordfish tournament. Several hooks in the hand. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted July 31, 2012 Super User Posted July 31, 2012 I've only gotten a hook in my hand once, but it was enough. I tried the trick where you wrap the line around the hook and pull, and the one where you push the barb through. That sucker was in me good. Went down to the ER and the Dr. had to cut it out of me. Turned out that the barb had speared a nerve and was hung up on it. I would have never gotten that hook out myself. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted August 6, 2012 Super User Posted August 6, 2012 I caught about a 3.5 lb LMB about 3 feet from shore on a lipless crank. Instead of tiring it out some, I wung it in shore and went for the lip. She gave me a shake and put two hooks of 1 treble into my pointer finger and middle finger while she was attached. I lost grip and she was shaking like a salt shaker yanking on my fingers. I had to pin the fish down on the ground to make it stop flip flopping. Was able to cut the hook from the crankbait and then had to remove the hooks. I iced my fingers and started pushing them through. What I learned that day was ALWAYS have a good pair of cutters with you. I had to use the cutters on my needle nose pliers and they were extremely difficult to cut through hooks. I never fish with out cutters and pliers at my side now. Quote
bassr95 Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 well, a few years back i was trolling for northern and walleye with a shad rap and caught a little pike about a foot long. while i was trying to unhook him, he flopped out of my hand and landed in my lap. he was hooked on the back treble and with one quick jerk set the front hook deep into my thy. i got a death grip on him and took the hook out, threw him in the water and then tried to take the hook out of my leg. my cousin then tried his hand at hook removal, but it was deep into the muscle and only resulted in a lot of screaming on my part. The ER is a crummy place to end a fishing trip. Quote
