The Olympics

All right I know that these people are real athletes. They can do stuff no one else on this world can or never will do. I respect them for that. So I am not here it disrespect them.

I was just wondering if I was the only one that doesn't care. The events including the winter ones bore more to death. Not because I could never do what they do. But I could never watch people run track, ski down hill, swim, speed skate, or the other events. Not my type of sports for some reason.

You are not alone. I can take 'em or leave 'em. I enjoyed them years ago, but sometime along the way I turned into an old fart.

The only thing that has me mildly interested is the competition between Phelps and Lochte. Don't think I could give you a name of any other participant off the top of my head.

Agree with you guys. I used to really like them with Atlanta and the winter games but since I found better hobbies like drinking, fishing and having kids, it just seems boring. I used to have the winter Olympics game for that hand held sega thing lol My wife is trying to get my oldest amped up so I am not gonna poo-poo on it, I am sure the lack of excitement will do it for me. They need to get some MMA, boxing they wear head gear even that takes the fun away. Lol

Looking back, I would say I lost interest when they started the "Up close and personal" features of the athletes. There is so much going on they do not need those fillers to take up air time. I'd rather watch tiddlywinks than the up close and personal bits. There are more events than they have time to broadcast, though the interactive options may have changed that if you subscribe to the provider.

Yeas and No. I look forward to watching certain events a couple weeks before they start and I don't miss it when it's done. I don't care to watch the basketball, soccer or any event that can be watched on t.v throughout the year. I like watching the girls gymnastics and diving. Ice skating is pretty cool to watch in the winter olympics too. One little mistake in the gymnastics or ice rink can ruin their whole year. I can barely balance myself while taking a leak, much less doing flipps in the air or landing on the ice with skates on.

Same here. I can remember being glued in front of the tube watching the Olympics when I was a kid. Now I might watch a little while seeing what else is on.

I played that game way back in elementary school. I did not know those were tiddlywinks though. The website made it sound fun and interesting. I would kind of like to try it out. Might be inning to the toy store in a bit.

Apparently me, cause my wife just stomped me at tiddlywinks. Yes that's right, I went out and bought some. I have never had her beat that bad at most anything. Plus she's as competitive as I am, so we almost got into a fight while playing. Surprisingly it is a pretty fun game.

I lost all interest in the Olympics sometime after the Berlin wall fell. Without the Cold War it just wasn't the same.

Will not watch a great deal, but will try to catch the swimming, beach volleyball (worth it just to see the women's hard bodies), men's basketball, and shorter sprints and hurdles.

Anyone here remember Al Micheals calling the 1980 men's hockey game vs. the Russians....were you watching???

This is gonna sound stupid, but my favorite Olympic sport is Curling in the winter. The strategy, and slow building drama just keeps me glued. I could watch it for literally hours upon hours.

Suprisingly my dad brother and myself watched curling in the last winter Olympics. Was extremely fascinating. Now granted there were some activities that transpired before we watched it. It still was just awe inspiring.

Tiddlywinks is an indoor game played on a flat mat with sets of small discs called "winks", a pot, and a collection of squidgers. Yes. We were in San Diego visiting relatives at the time. Actually it was the border town of San Ysidro, just south of San Diego. Everyone but me went to Tijuana. I stayed put and watched the hockey game.

There are a number of events I enjoy watching, especially track and field, as boring as it is I love the marathon. A bunch of events I could easily live without seeing, but I'm sure there is an audience for them.

The opening ceremonies were just ok in my opinion, looking back I was much more impressed with Bejing, but for me nothing topped Barcelona. The blind archer igniting the Olympic fame was epic.

I do think professional athletes have no place in the Olympics, regardless of what other counties do, the spirit of the Olympics is amateur competition. The 92 "Dream Team" was great to watch, in all honesty who could have beaten them?

In 2016 Golf is an Olympic sport, not that I think it should be, but the USA should field amateurs and not pros, same goes for tennis.

I have to make a confession. I woke up in the middle of the night, which is my norm, so I turned on the tv. The women's beach volley ball match between Russia and China was on, so I watched for a minute or two, or five or ten, maybe a half hour. Just to study their techniques and strategy of course.
