I already know i'm not going to get that many reply's but I thought I would just go for it. I am looking to get this reel http://www.basspro.com/White-River-Fly-Shop-Dogwood-Canyon-Disc-Drag-Fly-Reel/product/25189/89560 and this rod http://www.basspro.com/Heat-Fly-Rods/product/10210103/80608. The reviews on these are good so I think I might get them on Thursday. Or if you guys have any other suggestions for a rod and reel under 140 that would be great. This is for bass, bluegill, redfish, ladyfish, and blues. Notice that this is for bass to though so please don't change it to the other species forum as I mainly will bass fish with it. Thank you and have a good day.

I don't know if that last post is for fun or an accident in copying in posting which I don't see how you can mess up copying and posting but I was also looking into this combo http://www.basspro.c...OSSSELL_PRODUCT. I don't know anything about the company but the reviews are good.

I'll take it as you were trying to agitate me or something like that since there is no response, thank you for trying to help me out if you were.

Ok thank you very much haha. Sorry if I came off kinda mad but it just seemed that's the way you were coming off. Thank you again and I will look into that. I was just looking around into a new fly rod but I will probably just get some new line and what not and spend my money on a new rod and reel( for baitcasting of course). Have a good day.

The problem i found with the dogwood canyon reel is that it is extremely heavy, and i havent handled that rod, but for that price, i would suggest a Redington Pursuit, love the rod, and has a great warranty too. For a reel at that price, maybe try a White River Hobbs Creek, or aTFO Prism. I think both would be a better option for your money. I know the Prism is a step up, but i got mine on sale for $40 and i am very happy with it.

You might try Albright Fly rods as well. They're having a clearance right now and most everything is 70% off. Better rods/reels than you'll get for three times the price. You've got choices of a few smaller companies now that'll give you 5 times the rod that that Dogwood is.

Fwiw, Albright is always having a clearance, and what they don't tell you is they don't warranty the clearance stuff. If it breaks, they'll offer you a discount on a new rod, but they won't replace your old one.

OP, there's no way I'd try to use the same rod for all of those fish. A "do it all" rod generally doesn't do anything all that well, and is bound to be too light for some fish and way too heavy for others.

For what you wanna do id get a 6 or 7 weight, They are big enough to throw most bass flies, they can handle any size bass, and are small enough for good presentations for trout. If you need to use it for steelhead, just fight the fish, and play it safe when bringing it in. I got a 6 weight as my first rod to to my bass. panfish and trout fishing and im happy with it.

Do yourself a favor and get the 8 weight for bass, it will work well for Blues and Reds also. I have a S.C. Legend Ultra 9' 7wt. with a Redington 7/8 LA fly reel on it, and will say the 7wt. rod I wish was 8wt. for Bass, especially when you consider I mostly fish top water poppers and weedless mice in and near weeds, 4 and 5 lbs bass are a hand full on 7wt. in heavy weeds. I don't fish for Reds or Blues But assure you if I want a 8 weight for bass I know I'd rather have it for the Blues and Reds, and thats light for them. For pan fish and smaller trout, even 6 weight is overkill. Save up and buy a 4 or 5wt rig for that, I like the 4wt. Just what I have found, wish I woulda got the 8wt. and that along with my 4wt would have covered all my needs and done everything well!

The rig you ask about I would not recommend, others have given some better, much better suggestions for close to the same money. Good luck, you will love catching Bass on a fly rod!!

$39 reel for redfish or bluefish isn't going to cut it. In fairness southern bluefish do not reach the size of northern ones, 8# is a real nice blue, on L.I. 20 pounders are common and are excellent fighters.

I don't brand recommend, but if you are going to use it in saltwater, buy a saltwater fly reel and rod and I would not go lighter than a 9wt., redfish have the potential of getting very big. One of my buddies caught a 42# red a couple of weeks off Melbourne beach, and that isn't even in record territory.

Def. should look into TFO rods. They will last alot longer. Decent pricing also.

I'm going to chime in here. That Bass Pro Heat fly rod, while not a bad rod, has no business being used in ANYTHING except tournament fishing or wading very tight streams/creeks. The length on the rod is actually the longest legal lit for tournament bass fishing. It has ZERO advantages past that. You also can get away with one rod/reel for those things, but there won't be much of a fight with bream. I have a seven weight and love it, but a big bass in the weeds will make you wish you had a touch more. However, I actually like the fight, so that's up to you. An eight weight is a great suggestion, however.

For what it's worth... Instead of brand naming, I'll say this: Get a MACHINED fly reel, not a pressed cast metal one. The feel of palming the drag and using the reel is amazing, and the tolerances are very tight. They also look cool! Get yourself some Costa's, a Columbia shirt, a DO NOT forget to wear a sun buff. If you can't cast you'll at least look the part!

A yeti cooler to use as a casting platform is a plus as well. What was your budget again? :D
