Tube As Drop Shot Weight?

Hey Guys,

Question, has anyone tried using a tube on the bottom of a drop shot rig instead of a wieght? Why not present two baits? One tube at the bottom, and another lure about a foot or two higher on a drop shot hook?

I haven't got into the drop shot much. But I hear of a lot of people using small jigs instead of a weight. Seems like a good idea to me! A tube would be very interesting.

It sounds like it would work to me. Although if I'm not mistaken, it is illegal to fish with multiple hooks on the same line in a few states. Might want to double check first.

Thanks, PA has a limit of 2 hooks. MD is three.

I've tried this a few times in past seasons. The problem you run into is that "dead sticking" a tube on the bottom is not the best way to present this lure. Unless you are retrieving it along the bottom. Then that kinda defeats the purpose of the drop shot - keeping the bait in one specific location and in front of the bass's nose. And, the hook sets on both lures are somewhat different; the tube can be set pretty hard (the way you would a jig), whereas the drop shot is more of a raise and reel type set. Mixing apples and oranges is not always a good thing. JMO.

I have used a jig for a dropshot weight and have done well with it. It never occured to me use a tube though. I don't think a tube is the best choice.

Have not tried a tube but have tried a jig and pig.

Go for it with the tube. Give them something else to consider eating.

Pretty common for crappie fisherman to use another jig on the bottom

Isn't the idea of an actual drop shot weight to break off if you get hung up and not loose the whole rig?
