Final Decisions.

Ok, so those of you that have helped me out, have narrowed down what i want, a new jerkbait setup that i can do a few other things with too. Now i just need to narrow down the rod and pair it with a reel. around 100 for the rod, and maybe a little more for the reel. Heres the ideas i have currently.

Quantum Elite Swindle Cast Rod- 6'6 M/F or 7' ML/F $100 at TW

St. Croix Mojo Cast Rod 6'8" Med XFast $100

Shimano Sellus Casting Rod 6'8" Medium/Fast

The reason i chose these is because they are on TW and i have a Gift Card for their sight, although i will consider all options, as for a reel, i was thinking any of the clearance revo's, but tell me what you think, and give me your ideal combo for this price.

The Sellus doens't even compare to the rods above, however SHIMANO does have good rods, Compre and above.

I would get the SHIMANO Compre 6'8" M/XF with a Lews Speed Spool.

That'll put you at exactly $200.

You cant put the Sellus in that category. Dont get me wrong the Sellus is a great rod, but its a little bit lower than the other 2. I would switch it over to a Clarus rod, then you will be better off.

I did recommend the Sellus and feels it's a great rod for the money. The above poster states that the Sellus doesn't even compare to the other two, but I disagree. It is a tad bit heavier but it has great sensitivity, and balance and handles very well. You also need to consider that it's half the cost of the others as well.

If you truly want to buy a rod that's worth $50.00 or more than the Sellus get a Powell cause I do not feel the the other two are worth $50.00 more than the Sellus. The Powell is a bit more than $100.00 but put the money in the rod and a bit less in the reel.

For your jerkbait setup the Quantum Tour Swindle is a great choice and they are on ale at TW. The 6'6" is long enough for good casting distance and it is short enough that you can use a downward jerking motion without hitting the water. In fact that rod was designed for jerkbaits and topwater and at the sale price it is a no brainer. The Mojo is ok but it is heavier by a good bit than the Tour rod but I think any of those would be a good choice, I also believe the Tour has a lifetime warranty so that may be something you want to consider.

The quantum seemed like a good deal to me too, sorry, i just thought id throw the sellus out there to see what you guys would say. lol. What reel, what ratio? lets talk.

I only see 2 models listed at TW. Of the two I would definitely opt for the 7' ML. Just my personal opinion from reading the remarks made by Swindle that are below each rod. Plus I tend to like longer rods. Don't take that the wrong way!

I am only like 5'8" though, so i think i might be better off with the 6'6" model.

Sorry Mich., but once again my Tour is 20 years old. Seriously doubt they are even remotely the same rod. However, that Tour was my first casting rod and its light and tough as nails. A 10 year old boy can sure abuse a fishing rod and I still use it. That being said, I'd still go with the Premier.

Says a lot, but if i can get the Tour for 90 dollars out of pocket, would that make a difference?
