piscicidal Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Hello, fellow BR members. Many of you know my partner Robert (SouthFla) and I...we've been active members of this site for awhile. We have recently launched a company called Hawgtech.com. Our initial product is a carbon fiber reel handle which we're calling the Hawg Handle. Our primary goal was to create a high performance reel handle at a price point much below the JDM handles but at a similiar quality level. To further up the ante, we wanted to create a handle with cork knobs. We think we've accomplished those goals with the Hawg Handle. We've been field testing the handle for about eight months now...we've had these handles in the hands of South Florida pros/guides and many BR members here who you have come to know.....Capt Shane Procell, Dwight Hottle, bocabasser, LGmouthgambler, shallow thinker, and a couple others who I will refrain from mentioning for the time being (I promise...you will know who they are). The response we've received to the product has been overwhemingly positive. You will immediately notice the difference in performance...these handles are lighter, longer and smoother than virtually any stock handle in existence. And they look pretty good too. We hope you'll give us a look (www.hawgtech.com) and check us out on facebook. We are still a couple weeks away from offering final product for release...we are making some final tweaks to the design per the input of our user trial personnel and the website is still a little bit a work in progress. But we are very close to launchingthe Hawg Handle. Robert and I are proud to be aboard as sponsors of BR and we hope to be doing this for a long time to come. I will be announcing a sweepstakes very shortly for BR members and encourage all BR members who might be interested in this product to participate. Thanks, Mike and Robert (Team Hawgtech) Quote

FL_Sharpshooter Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Very cool product. I do have a question though. Are the handle knobs pressed/riveted on, or is it a ball bearing system? 1 Quote
piscicidal Posted July 26, 2012 Author Posted July 26, 2012 Quillback, We appreciate the well wishes. FL_Sharpshooter, Each knob is supported by two ball bearings, mounted on a fixed spindle. See below, showing the text from our press release...it gives a little more detailed description of the product. Quote

Super User Bassn Blvd Posted July 26, 2012 Super User Posted July 26, 2012 Congrat's on your new product, I hope it brings you much success. I was cursing my Calcutta the other day for not having a longer handle for my crank baits. I hope your handle will fit it and hold up to the HAWGS in the "rock pit." Please keep us posted on when you're ready to take orders. 1 Quote
bocabasser Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 these handles are amazing! mike and robert have a great product. i put one on my curado cu100B and another on my curado cu200. the 100B i use for spinnerbaits/traps and prop baits and the extra length adds extra power and speed when retrieving. the other i have on my frog rod and during the king of the glades classic, it helped me tremendously when i was hauling those big fish out of the junk. wishing you guys the best of luck with your new product. 1 Quote

I put one on my Dad's Calcutta back in May and he's been cranking in +40" Northern Pike up in Minnesota/Canada all summer with it. Quote

Super User South FLA Posted July 27, 2012 Super User Posted July 27, 2012 Hello all, Mike and I decided to partner up to form a business centered around our favorite hobby bass fishing! As you can imagine we tossed around many ideas we believe we found a niche with our handles. I am a tackle junky like many of you and have tried many reels, from hard to find JDM reels to the latest offerings for our American bass market. I have also tried aftermarket reel handles from Japan such as ZPI and Bass Art, and have been impressed with their performance over stock/factory handles, but the price seemed high even to an enthusiast like me. Nevertheless, these experiences as well as fishing with the equipment 2-3 days/week helped us in our product design. I believe that if fished on a consistent basis side by side you will notice that our Hawg Handle is more comfortable with its larger custom made cork knobs, stronger due to carbon fiber thickness and knob spidle design, and offers more leverage without being too long and cumbersome. I have been fishing prototypes for some time now and can tell you that when I pick up reels without the handle on it I can't wait to change it out. Lastly, I would like to not only thank bass resource for providing a venue to share knowledge about fishing, but also fellow forum members for helping with feedback in the development and field testing of our handle. Tight lines to all and thanks for your support! Signing out from the Keys going to try fishing for blackfin tuna this morning and land a HAWG using my Hawg Handle equiped Daiwa Pluton! Quote
RobertBG Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 I like the looks of the product, the fact that it is made in the USA is a big plus for me,and I'll be placing a order this fall when I return to the states.I plan on using it on a frogging setup I've been wanting to put together and the little extra leverage should allow me to use a current reel vs buying a new one (I hope). Only thing I'd like to add is that while you gave me a quick reply in the other thread,I think a good addition to your website would be to state where you guys make the things as I couldn't find it when i looked I personally don't mind spending a few more dollars (within reason)for a product of equal or better quality that is made in the USA................I'm sure others in our sport are of the same thinking too. 1 Quote
