You can get the previous models of the XPS Extreme rods for like $63.  Got my first Baitcasting model yesterday.

Check out their discounted or discontinued items for some good deals.

Look at the catalog for the items you are considering, write down the page number, and if the catalog prices are less than the store prices, have the clerk look it up and they will give you the catalog price.

Big BPS sale coming in March so I am holding out until then.

In the Richmond, Virginia area we are blessed to have Green Top, where the selection is far better than anything BPS has and Green Top is having their sale beginning this Wednesday to coincide with the Richmond Fishing Expo this weekend.

Let us know what you get at BPS.  ;)

I started making out my list for BPS spring classic last night. I hope the Pro Qualifier is on sale during the classic I have a couple of them on the list. Pretty nice reel for the money. Looking at the list I better start working some overtime.  ;D

BPS has made some changes to their rods and reels for 2010, and last year's gear can be a great buy...if it's something that you actually need. Don't buy it just because it's on clearance. It doesn't matter how good of a deal it is, it's a waste of money if you don't have a use for it.

I've noticed several of their rods are now sporting PacBay guides, like the new CarbonLite, Extreme, and Micro Lite rods. I picked up last year's 7' ML Micro Lite spinning rod for about $28 last week, because it has the older aluminum oxide guides instead of the flimsy all metal PacBay guides like the new Micro Lite. I needed a new floating worm rod anyway, so I jumped on it. :)

Dang Dave, I thought I was the only one that bought the weights one at a time. That stuff blows my budget fast.

I agree that rummaging through the discounted/discontinued stuff can yield big savings. Most of the time there is not much worth looking at, but last spring I found 5 or 6 bags of decent jig heads that I use for wacky rigging, for $1 a bag.

Hey Sam, Same place this year? The raceway complex? Do you know the times and wether or not there's an entrance fee? Thanks.

I gave up on Bass Pro....and the store in Foxboro doesn't have ANY clearance area.

I'll order on line, but I hear their shipping has gone up as well.

I am taking the hour plus ride to Cabela's in Connecticut on Friday. People say there are better deals there in the Bargain Cave....we'll see!! :;)

I was at a cabelas a few weeks ago and the bargain cave was a joke. All they had was a bunch of broken rods that I would not of paid 5 bucks for the whole lot. It was my first time to visit a cabelas and I was not impressed. I will admit though, they had a nice section for the reels to be displayed.

I am hoping to make it to the Bass Pro Shop in Foxboro for the Spring Fishing Classic. I went a few weeks ago and couldn't find any clearance area there as well, I'm not sure why they don't have one.  Has anyone attended the fishing classic in the past and how are the deals?

OK

Was at the BPS in Foxboro last week. The clearance such that it is, is mixed in with all the other items, so you have to look THROUGHOUT the store to find any "deals". Stock was limited.

I just got back yesterday from the 2 hr round trip. Only picked up a pack of Smokin Roosters and Space Monkeys. Also picked up a Rapala Twitchin Rap (best subsurface walking bait) and some pre rigged c-rigs since I'm too lazy to make them myself.

The Atl. store does the same thing, but they also have a dedicated clearance area. For some odd reason, it's in an area that many anglers would never go thru. They stuck it at the end of the aisle where they keep the kids' combos, over by the saltwater tackle.
