Anderson Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Hello Everyone, Today my buddy caught a bass around 2 pounds. What was out of the norm though was that the tail was split in two segments...unlike any other bass we have ever seen. Does anyone know why this would happen? Tight lines, gents -Anderson Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted July 25, 2012 Super User Posted July 25, 2012 It would help if we had a pic to see exactly what the split looked to be. If I were to guess I would say that what you had seen is a part of the growing process, I have caught several bass as you described with a split tail in the range you are referring to, 1.5 lbs and less, or it could have been a genetic defect in the fish as well. Super User ww2farmer Posted July 25, 2012 Super User Posted July 25, 2012 I have seen many many bass with the "finny" part of there tail worn in odd shapes. Bigger older ones almost rarely have a unscathed "full" tail. Years of spawning and such I assume have worn it out. Quote
