MichiganFishing1997 Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 Do you need a high speed retrieve reel for topwater? Or is the rod more important, im looking a t a BC thats on sale and only comes in a 6.55:1 so i was just wondering if that would work, thanks. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted July 22, 2012 Super User Posted July 22, 2012 That is fine, anything in the 6.whatever is pretty much an all around gear ratio that can be used for everything equally as good. If you aren't sure what speed reel would help you out with a certain technique just get a 6 and it will work for you. Quote
MichiganFishing1997 Posted July 22, 2012 Author Posted July 22, 2012 Good to know, now lets say i put this on a 7+ foot rod, Heavy, Fast action, would this be best used for frogs, buzz baits, poppers, and other topwaters, or could i do other things with it? Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 22, 2012 Super User Posted July 22, 2012 If using a popper or a spook, no......buzzbait yes. I wouldn't use a 7' heavy rod unless my lure weight required it, for me it would not be a consideration for freshwater. Quote
MichiganFishing1997 Posted July 22, 2012 Author Posted July 22, 2012 Well i love to throw poppers, so what would be an ideal set up for poppers? Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 m/f or m/xf is ideal for poppers Look at the Powell 6'10" TW exclusive jerkbait rod Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted July 23, 2012 Super User Posted July 23, 2012 For everything you want to throw, mostly poppers, I would opt for a Powell Max 683C (MH/XF) 6'8" rod. This thing is a heck of a versatile rod, and would be good for all around topwaters. Quote
