Try a Shimano Cumara in the 68 Medium Heavy extra fast action rod. Im using this rod right now for all of my reaction baits on them and it handles them perfectly.

I highly recommend the Denali Michael Murphy Signature Jerkbait/Topwater rod. It's a 6'8'', Med. with a moderate action. The handle is shorter on this rod and was developed specifically for working baits with your rod tip held down. This rod handles all my topwater baits and jerkbaits. You can go to, www.denalirods.com, and check it out.

There was a recent thread here on a search for a top water rod. For pop r's and walk the dog type baits I'm really pleased with the St. Croix Legend Tournament Bass LTBC68MXF 6'8" M/XF. The previous 2011 version is available from their bargain room right now on a great discount, brand new, and with the same great warranty and service as the newer models. I can tell you from personal experience their customer service is top notch and St. Croix is good people.

The XF action of this rod proably would not be ideal for jerkbaits, a F action in the St. Croix would be better for jerkbaits, but with a bit more effort you coulld move jerkbaits with it.

For topwaters, i.e. pop-r & spooks it seems I like a much shorter rod than others have recommended here.

Currently I'm using a 5'9" Walmart close out special. That makes it much easier for me to work baits with the rod tip down. I would use a 5 1/2' pistol grip rod, except after 20 minutes or so it makes my wrist ache.

I agree with Fishes in trees that a shorter rod, especially with a short rear butt is easier to work a top water lure, my 6'6 rods work exceedingly well for me. In defense of a longer rod, it's just a matter of getting used to it, I love working a 7'6 rod with a topwater bait in the surf, just one of my most favorite things to do, all my rods (I only use spinning) would be considered all purpose.

Look at the Powell TW exclusive jerbait rod. Its 6'10" and a great little rod for jerkbaits and topwater...

i have pretty much narrowed it down to the powell max jerkbait rod or the denali micahel murphy jerkbait. The only problem is no plae around me carries either of them and i would be buying them blind. has anyone used both of these rods and compared them.
