traindog71 Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 Does anyone else here fish the Levisa Fork of the Big Sandy River? I have been having great success with bubblegum Yamasenkos. The Levisa Fork runs along the KY/VA border area along US 460 and has 126 miles of floating/wading small streams. Hopefully someone else other than me has had the opportunity to fish it this summer. Also why are the smallies killing this color of Senko? What natural food are they basing their attack on this color? Thanks, and if you have not had the opportunity to fish this area and live somewhat close, I will gladly give you some direction on where to go, although I dont fly fish for smallies here, I definitely see the opportunity and may try it soon. 2 Quote
Brandon Tackett Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I fish this water every year and in both states Va/Ky. I love it, I have never tried bubble gum colors though. I do well on motor oil-chart. worms, 4 inch senko's (natural colors), fat albert style grubs, and about any type of crawl imitation. I enjoy hearing that more people are enjoying this under utilized wading opportunity! Quote
Air Blair Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 First off let me say I love to wade fish in Eastern KY for smallmouth! I have been researching the "Left Fork Levisa Fork" out of Pikeville (I live outside Ashland, KY). Any helpful advice you can give would be greatly appreciated! Quote
26phillip26! Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 What kind of rod do you use when fishing the Levisa fork. I have fished there for years with ultra lite Shakespeare rods and I throw plastics. Is that the best option Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 22, 2017 Global Moderator Posted January 22, 2017 Smallmouth are curious fish that seem to love gaudy colors at times. Bright chartreuse or white are often good colors even in very clear water. Fish don't have hands to grab something to inspect it, only their mouth. It's possible they're grabbing it more out of curiosity than hunger. 1 Quote

Spots also do this but I don't know if it's as often and as hard as smallies. I buy a few pink spinnerbaits every year for catching river/creek spots in EasTex spots and CenTex Guads. I don't often have much luck with spinnerbaits, but the spots and Guads love the pink spinnerbaits and I have a field day when that bite is on. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted January 22, 2017 Super User Posted January 22, 2017 Every time I go out after smallies, I try a bubblegum Senko. And I usually fish it wacky style under a slip float. (Shhhhhh!) LOL! Quote
woody osborne Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 rebel crawdads have produced for years. i miss those waters. crankbaits will get walleye. Quote
clark9312 Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 I always threw small chart spinner baits and buzzbaits. If you can catch the big sandy right I think it's the best bass fishing in EKY. Quote
