Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 21, 2012 Super User Posted July 21, 2012 But this one doesn't do it justice. 45" Kingfish caught on a mh spin outfit. Edit: I caught this on my new Pflueger arbor reel, can't give a proper review until I've caught a few hundred pounds of fish and it's weathered the elements for a while. Only negative is no power handle, however the drag was flawless and the reels is as smooth as silk. The reel was only used as my 2 other heavier offshore reels are being cleaned. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 21, 2012 Global Moderator Posted July 21, 2012 Wow, I caught a 36" king on heavy casting gear in Florida a few years ago and that was a heck of a fight. I bet that one had line flying off your reel. Quote
Super User MCS Posted July 21, 2012 Super User Posted July 21, 2012 Nice catch. Bet you had a blast landing it. Shoulda came up for the tourney. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted July 22, 2012 Super User Posted July 22, 2012 Fun catch on the m/h spinner. I was invited to go on the Southern Comfort charter boat this coming Tuesday from 6a-12p. Boat is 40+ feet and is only taking 11 people. I really don't want to go but my uncle is kind of counting on me. How has the bottom fishing been out of Boynton? I've caught enough kings in my time that I really don't care to go sweat my ars off on a party boat and spend 75 bucks, haha. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted July 22, 2012 Super User Posted July 22, 2012 My soon to be step dad fishes off the coast of Oregon and is always teasing me with pictures of his monster catches. I have an open invitation to join him. This looks like a blast! Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 22, 2012 Author Super User Posted July 22, 2012 Compared to other types of fishing it looks harder than it really is. The lack of a power handle made it a bit more uncomfortable getting a good grip to crank. Having plenty of line (14#lb mono in this case) and using your drag to let the fish run without panic is really the key. I never add line to a saltwater reel and never use backing with braid, I do a complete respool when needed, I want no joining knots. Doug, You know where Southern Comfort docks, Palm Beach Yacht club on Federal between Gateway and Hypoluxo. Never been on the S.C., but I go on it's sister boat, the "Living on Island Time", which is walk up and no reservation. Somedays they may go out with 6 people, other days it can be 30. As far as party boats go, they are the best ones in our area, IMO. Never been but I hear the Black Dog in Jupiter is hands down the best. The offshore fishing has not been good, last few times out we had less than 10 fish between 2 guys with 6 lines out. Some bonita, blue runners, a king now and then. I do hear of some yellowtail and muttons being caught. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted July 22, 2012 Super User Posted July 22, 2012 Thanks for the report. I think I'm going to skip the trip. Getting up at 4:30a, getting home at 1:30p and going straight to work makes for a LONG day. I have a lot going on at work right now and I need to be on my toes. Going to the inlet to meet you allows me to get home and take a nap before going in. BTW, I also heard good things about the Black Dog. Quote
