im considering getting one of these but i have a question. i been going back and fourth between the cur ado 201 and 301 (left handed version) one is a little over $200 other ones is about $120. is there any difference or improvement's between the 2? looking into possibly getting another rod/reel bait caster set up next week when i get paid.

There only really difference is size. The 300 is what you want for monster swimbaits, and saltwater. Its not very good for most bass techniques.

You definately want the 200 size, and if your throwing lighter baits the 50 size would be even better.

would use it most likely for a topwater setup. top waters such as jitter bug and hula popper unless there is another reel better for top waters I'm just getting back into bass fishing again.

Yup, i'd definately go with the 50 size if they have it. If not, the 200 size will be great as well.

The new Curado G does not come in the 50 size as of right now. You would have to look online to see if someone is selling a Curado 50E. The 50E is great for all around fishing with some good 12# line, like YoZuri Hybrid line. If you want something with more capacity, then you can go for the 200 size, which the new G is or you can even find a E online. Either way, the 50 is good for lighter baits in the 1/8-1/2oz category, the 200 is better for the 1/2+ category. If any questions just ask.

This is my own personal opinion, your mileage may vary. I am a die hard shimano curado fan. I purchased one of the G models and took it out for a day on the water. I returned it when i got back. The side plate on mine popped open twice during a casting. Also I couldn't seem to fine tune the cast control like I can on my E models. If you own any E models I think you will be disappointed with the G. I recommend you read lots of reviews on the new G before making your purchase. They are not an upgrade from the E. That being said they are still a great real in that price range, but i guess i was spoiled by the E series. I purchased a Cronarch 201e and never looked back at the G.

Bigt89, you don't want a 301 for what you're looking to do. A 200 size should work fine, not to mention much lighter,

yea think the curado e is only way to go and there so d**n expensive i don't under stand they have what 3 or 4 out now? don't you think they would give you a deal? they are all literally close to the same price about a $5-10 difference nib from the 50-300.

Also may be worth looking online for a used Citica 200e. It only comes in a 6.3:1 gear ratio but got great reviews and can be found in the $60-80 range. I am actually trying to find a few over the next few months for my soon to be spinnerbait setups.

I agree, check out the Citica 200E. They are going for $80-100 online new.

Personally, I would buy the Citica E over the Curado G. The only thing the Curado is better than the Citica at is throwing lures under 1/4oz which I would use a spinning reel for.

I disagree. Every single one of my G series reels has been fantastic. They're excellent reels, just like the B series used to be. I've put a LOT of hours on the dozen of them I have and have had ZERO issues. Is the Chronarch worth a $40 upgrade? They are and they aren't. They're a bit smoother retrieve, but don't cast any better than the G series. I also have at least a dozen E Series Curado and another dozen Chronarch. I'm happy with them, but am actually happier with the G series Curado on the basis of it being what it's always been. They're just what a Shimano reel has always been, and what they always should be- bombproof and affordable. Shimano has never billed the G as an upgrade, nor has anyone with half a wit, all you have to do is look at the specs to tell that.

It Is quite possible mine had some defect. The lock on the vbs side was gritty and did not have that positive locking click.

Anyway here is a nice review of the Curado G : http://www.tackletour.com/reviewshimanocuradog.html. It shows what Hooligan is talking about it being not sold as an upgrade but more the next evolution. They are probably still the best 149 reel around.

A used 50E (or 51E if you want a LH) is a reel you will never regret buying. I have two 51E's mounted on a pair of St Croix Legend tournaments and they are a joy to fish with. I find myself using those two combos for most everything, and will cut off and retie lures to those rods before I reach for my other combos, which are not junk either, Avids, Mojos with other Curado's and Citca's, etc....thats just how much I like those reels.

Ok im in a situation, I have 12 hrs to decide. Heres the situation ... Do i get a Curado 201g6 for $129.99 or do i get a Chronarch 201e6 for $167.19 ?

Depends on what I'm doing. Cranking, spinenrbaits ,and the like- Chronarch. Pitching and non-retrieve dependent applications- Curado, and spend $40 on tackle.

The chronarch, it's basically the same as the Curado E. Lucky to still have my Curado E.

There you go using logic again...
