Can anyone out there share their input on the Pflueger Supreme MG vs the Daiwa Aird? Happy to hear opinions on either, but would love comparsions from anyone who as used both.

I'm looking for a light weight (around 9 oz) spinning reel for $100 that is going to be a quality reel. I'm looking to mount it on my new St. Croix LTB 6'6" ML/F spinning rod.

I have two Daiwa Exceler's that have served me well over the past few years and have been happy with them. I'm looking to step up most of my gear to something a bit better.

I like the profile fo the Daiwa 2500 size, but in Pflueger I guess I'd have to go with the 35 size as the 30 is much smaller.

I've held and played with an Aird in the store, and while it is smooth with no wobble or play, it has more resistance in the handle turn then my Exceler's. I have a new model Plueger President on another rod for my wife that has a similar resistance to the Aird.

Thanks for any feedback you can share.

Thanks!

I've had three terrible experiences with Daiwa spinning reels (two Tierras and a Regal Xi), and would strongly recommend against them. I think the Pflueger is probably a fine reel, but personally for the $100 mark I'd go with a Shimano Symetre, or if you can find one on eBay the Shimano Saros. The newly redesigned versions of those two reels will be coming up soon, and look promising as well.

Well a 30 size Supreme will work just fine on a ML rod save some weight too. I have 30 size on Croix LE 7'6" M/F. Dont know the conditions you will be fishing but on my ML Avid I have even smaller size 1000 Stradic held up fine.

If you want to spend the time searching the forums, which obviously you don't, you will find that Pflueger spinning reels are rated very highly among the members. My spinning reels are Presidents and I have a Trion that I still use occasionally. No complaints. Great reels!

Actually I did search this forum quite a bit looking for postings on both of these reels. While I did find plenty of postings on Pflueger reels, especially the President, Supreme XT, and Patriach I didn't find as much on the current model Supreme.

My post is asking specifically for feedback or comparisons between the two subject reels from people who may have used them both.

Thanks for your feedback on Pflueger reels in general, but I'm still hoping to hear from folks who have used the subject reels.

If it's a Pflueger it's a great reel period, what more do you need to know?

I don't pit one reel against another, I do own 6 Pflueger reels that have been perfect for several years, a drop of oil and that's it. I have one Daiwa tierra, very nice but it's been in service for a line stacking problem, needed a part. Of the 4 Shimanos I own, that's 2 stradic and 2 spheros, stradic had a line roller bearing problem with a 4 month back ordered part and a spheros had a broken bail arm. No recommendation, but that's the history, in fairness both Daiwa and Shimano fixed the out of warranty reels at no charge.

As far as performance goes, all about the same.
