EddieC1981 Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 A little backstory Grew up on the ocean, fished I disagree off as a kid and teen, never had a lot of great freshwater fishing spots. So now that I'm older I've moved to New Hampshire while the fishing here from the shore isn't easy I have a couple ponds that I go to for bassin' . All ponds I fish have a decent amount of lilypads, milfoil, downed trees, etc. I can reach this cover from the shore easily. My Arsenal: I've caught EVERY bass since early june on rubber worms (Mostly Senko 5") started using a Havoc 8" juice worm (while it's lighter than the senko's having trouble getting it to sink faster/cast farther. Fishing them slowly, let it drop, bring it up and let it fall. I have tried some topwater frogs (Stanley Ribbitt, Boo-yah Pad crasher, Ragetail toad) but even with the really thick padded area. Getting a few swipes but not hooking up. (don't use any crankbaits because there is too many weeds out there) How else can I present my soft baits in these areas. Regular shoreline and super weeded areas? Trying to get my plastics to drop down better between the pad openings or at least find a different way to fish. Any details, ideas or reccomendations would be greatly appreciated. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 18, 2012 Super User Posted July 18, 2012 These "Jig Rigs" jika rigs from Owner have worked really well with Rage Craws for me.... Quote
Jig Meister Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Try a shaky head presentation, t-rigged always works well also. Drop shotting also could help, not sure if you're land locked or not. Quote
EddieC1981 Posted July 18, 2012 Author Posted July 18, 2012 I've only heard of drop shotting. How is it for weeded areas because I have shore access only and sometimes the cover is pretty thick Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted July 18, 2012 Super User Posted July 18, 2012 You might waznt to start here: http://www.bassresource.com/fishing-techniques/ Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted July 18, 2012 Super User Posted July 18, 2012 J beat me to it, when I was reading your post I was thinking a jig rig. They've been deadly for me with rage craws (small ponds) and flukes (rivers, larger lakes) Quote
backwater4 Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Texas Rig Shakey Head (Good on weed edges) Jika Rig Skirted Punch Weight w/ Texas Rig (Good in weedy and padded areas} Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted July 18, 2012 Super User Posted July 18, 2012 Try using the juice worm with a basic texas rig using a bullet weight in front of the worm. You don't need to worry about the drop shot, some guys are in love with the technique but it is useless from shore unless you know exacly where the fish are and even then it is tough because the angle of the line is a lot oess when standing on the shore compared to being in a boat. Yeah, try the texas rig with a 1/4oz weight and the shaky head is always a great rig especially when fish are finicky. Now if you want to go buy some new baits, (who doesn't like to do that?) you can go get some trick worms or other floating type worms, Z-Man and Strike King 3X plastic are two commercial baits that float, anyway rig the floating worms nekko rigged, it is tough in weeds but just on the edge of cover it will work. Look it up on youtube, you just place a nail weight or a nose weight in the front of the floating worm and hook the worm in a way that you are dragging it by the side, like I said, look it up on youtube as I can find the words to describe it but that too will work for you. A-Rob Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Texas Rig for me whenever there is grass around but if the grass is submerged you can wacky rig your senko weightless and it will settle onto the vegetation without sinking in or snagging up b/c of the lack of weight. Texas Rig, Jig, Frog are my 3....but they aren't anything original haha Quote
Bassfishing375 Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 i would use a small weight on the juice worm because the havoc line take forever to sink. Maybe a 1/16 or a 1/8 depending on how fast you want it to sink. I would also try a spinnerbait and fish it along the weed edge. If there is a weed edge where you fish. Throw a fluke or a jig near and around the fallen trees and let it sink to the bottom and maybe work the fluke as a spook on top. You might lose some jigs but it is just an idea. Hope this helps Quote
QUIENYO Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 If I understand your question, you are looking for different ways to present plastic baits? You are throwing from shore into areas with high snag probabilities? I would say that limits you to TX and Carolina rigs. You mentioned you have success with worms, have you tried any craw or creature baits TX rigged? Throwing a craw bait will get you hit on the fall many times. If not on the fall, let it sit for 15 seconds, then just give it a twitch or two before reeling slowly. Repeat this cycle to shore. From my limited experience, I have had much success with the craw baits, pick your brand. If you have a heavy set-up with braid, try throwing a jig with craw trailer. Same as the craw above, let it sit for a bit, then give a twitch or two before reeling. Good luck. Quote
bayouXpress Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 try some super flukes. You can work them just about anyway you want. But I would go with a 1/4oz tungsten bullet weight on a watemelon seed red baby brushhog. Quote
