mg4u2nv Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Well the wife gave me the go ahead for another combo. I think what I will do is get a rig setup strictly for frogs. My current frog rig is a BPS PQ 7.1 on a 7' MH veritas rod. I love the PQ reel so no issues with that. My question is when i do upgrade the frog setup what can i do with my current one? I will say living in south florida i fish through a lot of slop and pads on a regular basis. My other current rig i only really throw weighted plastics. What else do you think is needed for the heavy cover besides frogs and weighted plastics? I dont really fish enough open/clear water for cranks and spinners. I thought of a weightless rig(senko, fluke, etc). Just wanted some outside input, and thank you in advance! Matt Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted July 17, 2012 Super User Posted July 17, 2012 I think you are making a mistake not throwing spinnerbaits on ocassion. My brother-in-law was a strictly 10 inch weightless worm (mostly Junebug color) and #11 Rapala fisherman until this year when I made a believer out of him with a spinnerbait. Hauled in 5 in quick succession to his none with a worm. Later we did have to switch back to worms, but now he has added another lure to his repertoire. The small lake we were fishing had a lot of weeds. We threw them where the weeds weren't all the way to the top. Hits sometimes came when the spinnerbait was hitting the tops of the weeds. EDIT: Bro-in-law lives in Florida. Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted July 17, 2012 Super User Posted July 17, 2012 Get a Chronarch 200E7, put on a sturdy MH 7'+ rod, and spool it with some 65# braid. DONE. Quote
mg4u2nv Posted July 17, 2012 Author Posted July 17, 2012 Both good ideas. My current froggin rod has 40lb PP on it already. I fish from shore and felt i needed to sacrifice a little power for distance. The 40lb is good. I do have an occasional break off from snakeheads, but i think thats my own negligence from not re-tying when i should. I would have the 40lb braid on the new frog setup but would i leave it on my current setup or should i switch to lighter line if i wanted it to be used for spinnerbaits? Thank you again! Matt Quote

Thank you again! Matt I don't see why the 40# couldn't be left on the old rod considering the type of cover you fish. I wouldn't want that combo for treble hooks, but can't think of any reason for not using it with single hook techniques. Quote
mg4u2nv Posted July 18, 2012 Author Posted July 18, 2012 I think i will keep it with single hook setups, there are countless applications for that. Thank you for all of the input guys! Matt Quote
