Nashua Nev Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 While bass fishing here in the Nashua river behind the millyard i caught a little turtle. By little i mean , just about 45 lbs and 19 inches across. I did my best to weigh him but he wouldnt stop moving. My digital scale only goes to 50 and kept erroring out. caught him on a little white plastic mouse and braided line. Huge claws. my buddy told me it was called an alligator snapper http://i1040.photobucket.com/albums/b407/ktm313/8dd07965.jpg http://i1040.photobucket.com/albums/b407/ktm313/ec13d1e1.jpg http://i1040.photobucket.com/albums/b407/ktm313/fc1a4eb1.jpg http://i1040.photobucket.com/albums/b407/ktm313/17a49193.jpg http://i1040.photobucket.com/albums/b407/ktm313/636e6fd2.jpg Quote

Super User AK-Jax86 Posted July 17, 2012 Super User Posted July 17, 2012 nice pics thats a big turtle Quote
Nashua Nev Posted July 17, 2012 Author Posted July 17, 2012 no need to ever catch one again, i will stick with fish Quote
unhbass37 Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Nice LOL. I caught a turtle a little smaller then that at Mill pond 2 years ago on his foot usuing a crankbait. Did you put your boat in behind Stellos? I'm thinking of trying it again in my Bass tracker with my son. Are there any points in the river I need to be careful of? I really don't want to lose my lower end or prop. Quote
Nashua Nev Posted July 18, 2012 Author Posted July 18, 2012 I put in behind Stellos all the time. guys fly around that place in huge boats. seems like they just stick to the middle. I have had good luck around the island just to the left as you come off the ramp. tons and tons of weeds. Ragetail craw weightless and weighted as well as a white weedless little mouse twitching on top. I posted a bunch of pics including a new personal best at 6-1 and also a 4-1 smallie. slow slow slow on top of the weeds. Quote
unhbass37 Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 I see a bunch of rocks on Google Earth is that Holis? Quote
Nashua Nev Posted July 19, 2012 Author Posted July 19, 2012 That would be Hollis line at the Runnels bridge. I believe it is as far as you can go with a boat. There is a lot of water to fish between Stellos launch and that bridge. alot of water , a lot of weeds , a lot of wood , a lot of everything. Quote
Nashua Nev Posted July 19, 2012 Author Posted July 19, 2012 The other place i have had some luck at catching smallies is the part of the Nashua river that leads to the bottom of the dam at Stellos. You can put your boat in behind the millyard ( you need permission but it is easy to get) from there you can go right and follow to the dam off of Main street in Nashua where it drops at Margaritas or go left from that launch and you can follow it as it twists and turns thru Nashua down Broad street behind the carwash , Under the bridge going under the highway at exit 6 , behind Home depot and you can follow it till it gets rocky. it is a good distance. make sure you spend time fishing the bridge area all smallmouth i have not caught a largemouth there yet. those river smallies put up a nice fight Quote
unhbass37 Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Where behind the Mill yard? Who do I ask? Thanks for your help. Quote
Nashua Nev Posted July 19, 2012 Author Posted July 19, 2012 if you follow around behind the millyard there is a big parking lot and an excellent launch area. the sign posts that you need permission. there is a phone # to call. When i got permission a couple years ago i had to go inside during their normal working hours with an id and truck plate #. they gave me a paper with written permission to put on the dash board anytime i am there. it was free and easy to do. 5 minutes maybe 10 tops. we have put my buddies 18 foot fiberglass 115 hp motor with no probelms at all. we used the big motor to get us past the mall to start fishing and fished back to the launch from there Quote
unhbass37 Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Great maybe we we try that instead. Thanks again for the help. Quote
Nashua Nev Posted July 19, 2012 Author Posted July 19, 2012 If it were me i would hit the Nashua river launching at Stellos launch. It takes me 1/2 hour in my little boat to get to the Hollis line so i have only been up there once or twice. Most people i talk to with bigger /faster boats head to Hollis and the golf course area. There is also a launch off of Broad street , It is off Tilton street which is left off of Broad street. Also an easy launch and easy parking. Quote
unhbass37 Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Went all the way to Hollis, big waste though. Just to many places they can be. Honestly I have never been big on river fishing. We caught a few but won't be hurrying back soon. My son caught the biggest smallie at a whopping 1 pound. Thanks to Nev for the information much appreciated. Quote
Nashua Nev Posted July 21, 2012 Author Posted July 21, 2012 Hit the islands off the launch today at stellos. got there about 5:30 for about 2 1/2 hours, 8 fish nothing bigger than 2 1/2lbs , all on top water , in the weeds and pads , white mouse , gray mouse, black frog. the big question , where to go tomorrow morning with in 1/2 hour of Nashua. Kingston is gonna be too far as is Pawtuckaway. canobie? massabassic WHAT IS WEST ? INSTEAD OF EAST? Quote
