Got recently combo St.Croix Avid Spinning rod 6'8'' M/XF and the Pflueger Patriarch ......well spooled it by mistake with 15 lb Fluro (P Line)-....on the rod info says LINE: 6-12 lb...should I change the line?

Will use it for wacky in lakes with a lot of weeds.

Thank you.

Yes, on a spinning rod 8lbs is max for me!

It's already on there so set your drag accordingly and give it a shot. If you don't like it you will know pretty quick and can change it out for a lighter line.

if there is no problem with the rod I will leave it and see if this works....my reel is 9535 Patriarch if this changing anything.

All depends on the reel size too. I use 10 lb. P-line cx on almost all of my 30 and 35 size Pfluegers with no problem. My crankbait rod has a 35 size Pflueger supreme with 12 lb. P-line cx, and that is pushing it. More important than the test rating is the line diameter. My supreme is rated to 10 lb. test maximum, but the 12 lb. P-line cx I use on it is still within the rated line diameter rating of the reel.

I hope you like LOTS of memory on spinning reels, LOL.

Seriously. i'd put it back on the original spool, and just put some 8# on. That way you dont waste the 15#

The numbers on a reel are reference regarding line capacity, I do not accept them as recommendations. Different types of lines and different manufactures will have different results in line management. I use 14# spiderwire XXX on my cabo 30 which size wise isn't much different than a bass reel, the line works beautifully. Conversely I've had poor results (coiling) even with thinner lines on spinning reels of all sizes. For me, any kind of mono, copoly or F/C line is a last resort line, the lure or bait type dictates my line usage. If I thought F/C was magic, which I don't, I'd be using braid with a F/C leader.

You may lose some manageability with that heavy of a line.

Back the line down to 10# max.

OR try

Switch to 15# braid if you are fishing in the grass.

With 15lb braid will I have to still use the fluro leader? If yes what thickness of fluro for a leader with 15lb braid?

There are some that tie braid direct to the lures with success, others use F/C leaders with success, and some use mono leaders with success, and last of all some use leaders made from line (leaders and lines are not the same)..........confused, lol don't be, just boils down to personal choice. I myself would use 15-20# leader with 15# braid, many people use lighter.

Kabar, there is absolutely no need for a fluoro leader. I rarely use one, but if the water is gin clear I'll tie on about 3' of fluoro. I try to match the leader just a bit lighter than my mainline, so if I snag no mainline is wasted.

Also, the alberto knot is by far the best knot i've ever used to join fluoro and braid. I highly recommend you try it out.

But is this ok if the leader is bigger in diameter then the main line? like : fluro 10lb as a leader ( 0.28mm) and main line Power Pro 15 lb ( 0.2mm)
