Super User Hammer 4 Posted December 16, 2009 Super User Posted December 16, 2009 Well, I know it's not from lack of skillz...that's why I said that.. I find that hard to believe.... :-/ Sometimes a slower steady retrive works wonders.. Ya'll are killing me. I cannot get bit on those things. Never, ever had a bite. Well believe it. I have two left in my tackle bag and have not bothered to even tie one on in over a year. I've got other things that seem to do a better job. Quote
Hemi6677 Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 I've been using the Original Chatterbait for a couple of years now and have caught a ton of fish on them here in Indiana. Earlier this year they caught me a lot of nice fish although my success rate slowed down with them as the summer came on at which point I switched to jigs and soft plastics. My favorite colors so far have been black and blue, white and red, and a root beer/watermellonish color with appropriate colored craw trailers. Quote
masterbaiter99 Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Personally I have used the Z-Man, Strike-King, and Booyah and prefer the z-man. Down here in FL you can crush them with a 3/8oz white Z-man...the trick is the trailer. You have to find something a little different. I use the Zoom Fluke in golden shiner with a white chatterbait and they tear the d**n thing up! Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted December 18, 2009 Super User Posted December 18, 2009 I like Chatterbaits. I have several different brands, Strike King, Booyah, originals, Gamblers, generic ones I got at sport shows, & names I don't remember now. Specifically, I use them on flats when vegetation issues make using a Rattletrap a pain. I throw them on a spinnerbait rod. Quote
jacobhookem Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 I haven't used chaterbaits very much but I have caught a few fish on them personally I would rather use a spinnerbait or a jig. But hey I will give them another shot. Quote
arul Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Been a fan of the chatter style baits since they became popular. I've caught hundreds, if not thousands, of fish on them.Like any other bait, they have a time and a place to be used. Do they work? Yep! please explain... I have never tried one. When and where should I give them a try? Quote
JKarbo214 Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Do you typically fish these like a jig or more like a spinnerbait with a constant retrieval? Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted January 24, 2010 Super User Posted January 24, 2010 Depends on what the fish want...I've caught fish on ...fast steady retrives, med paced, and a "jigging" type retrive..We have during some months, alot of weeds, which tend to foul a chatter bait, so I keep the retrive steady, and my rodtip high. Do you typically fish these like a jig or more like a spinnerbait with a constant retrieval? Quote
kikstand454 Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 chatterbaits are like anyother baits... you wont catch anything on them if they arent in the water! much like i cant seem to catch anything with a jig, and therefore dont throw it that much. its a vicious cycle. i prefer the strike king pure poisons in white with a chart. trailer. i fish them mostly liek a spinnerbait/ swimjig. i think this year im going to experiment more on ledges in the summer months with them, and in a couple of weeks i think i might spend a day throwing one instead of a trap over grass just to mix things up.
