I prefer a fast taper MH rod 1/4 to 1.0 oz. for blade baits. Sounds like your rod is close to its limit, Time to beef up the gear some. Whats the action on the rod and its weight rating?

Are the spinnerbait blades running right? If they aren't it will make it feel heavy.

what type of line ?

Sometimes braided line depending on the guides you have on the rod can make a crank or spinner bait feel heavier than it should.

12-20 lb is the line rating. I think you would be happier with a mh rod with a fast taper!

The rod is your culprit, most likely. You're fishing a bait that is a total weight of close to an ounce, not just the head. You have to consider that. The lightest rod that I will fish a 3/8 ounce spinnerbait on is a MH Xfast.

Yes it will. Make sure it has a fast or extra fast taper thoug.

Find it odd that some prefer a moderate action..

Until you get more rod try pointing the rod straight at the bait on the retrieve. I also like a slower reel, not everyone does, but it's a pain if you fish buzzbaits on the same rig.

if your spinnerbait has large blades that could also be some of the problem

Colorado blades move alot of water which would also cause it to feel like that

also you didnt say what rod you have medium action is different with certain rods

your reel could need a good cleaning that might also help
