Matthew Veillion Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 I am using a shimano caenan and a 6'6" medium rod and 3/8 ounce spinnerbaits feel so heavy and it feels like im reeling in a brick, any tips? Everything is set right idk why it does this Quote
jj'sbassinforfun Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 I prefer a fast taper MH rod 1/4 to 1.0 oz. for blade baits. Sounds like your rod is close to its limit, Time to beef up the gear some. Whats the action on the rod and its weight rating? Quote
jwhowells Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Are the spinnerbait blades running right? If they aren't it will make it feel heavy. Quote
Matthew Veillion Posted July 14, 2012 Author Posted July 14, 2012 It says 12-20 pound and goes up to 3/4 ounce, could it possibly be the reel? Quote
Matthew Veillion Posted July 14, 2012 Author Posted July 14, 2012 Why did everyone stop replying? Quote
jimmykm21 Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 what type of line ? Sometimes braided line depending on the guides you have on the rod can make a crank or spinner bait feel heavier than it should. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted July 14, 2012 Super User Posted July 14, 2012 12-20 lb is the line rating. I think you would be happier with a mh rod with a fast taper! Jeff Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted July 14, 2012 Super User Posted July 14, 2012 The rod is your culprit, most likely. You're fishing a bait that is a total weight of close to an ounce, not just the head. You have to consider that. The lightest rod that I will fish a 3/8 ounce spinnerbait on is a MH Xfast. Quote
Matthew Veillion Posted July 14, 2012 Author Posted July 14, 2012 I know i should probally start a new topic but would a 7 foot medium heavy work for spinnerbaits? Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted July 14, 2012 Super User Posted July 14, 2012 Yes it will. Make sure it has a fast or extra fast taper thoug. Jeff Quote
Super User tomustang Posted July 14, 2012 Super User Posted July 14, 2012 Yes it will. Make sure it has a fast or extra fast taper thoug. Jeff Find it odd that some prefer a moderate action.. Quote
BradH Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Until you get more rod try pointing the rod straight at the bait on the retrieve. I also like a slower reel, not everyone does, but it's a pain if you fish buzzbaits on the same rig. 1 Quote
Matt Jungblut Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 if your spinnerbait has large blades that could also be some of the problem Colorado blades move alot of water which would also cause it to feel like that also you didnt say what rod you have medium action is different with certain rods your reel could need a good cleaning that might also help Quote
