WhiteRubi Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 I feel like I've made a decision on my other setups. I bought a new Stradic FJ 2500 last week and LOVE it. Spooled it with Power Pro and put it on my 7'2" Crucial worm/jig rod. Great setup. I've pretty much made up my mind on all the other setups with the exception of the 7'11" H XF Crucial flipping/punching rod. Probably won't be making long casts so not concerned with that. I won't say that I'm on a strict budget but if I can save some money, great. If the MGX is THE reel for this, I'm okay with that too. I'm and Abu fan (at least for baitcasting) so... Thoughts on proper reel and line setup to complete this rig? Thanks in advance fellas. I've learned a LOT here and look forward to learning more. Quote
dcorp Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 If you like Abu's and want to save some money pick up a SX-HS for your flippin rod. They are strong reels with the best drag out there and you can get them for around $100 new right now. I am using a SX HS with 65lb power pro on my flippin/punchin set up. REally like the fact that I can crank the drag down and set the hook on a big bass in cover (with braid) and no line will pull out on the hook set. With my Daiwas I need to put my finger on the spool on the hook set which I dont always remember to do. Just my 2 cents.... Quote
jwhowells Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 I got a decent deal on an ardent F500 which is a flip and pitch reel and I have to say I'm not a big fan of it. The only thing I probably like about it is the fact I dont' need to load up a ton of braid on it because it has a norrow spool and its made in the USA. What I don't like is its heavy and it has a fixed line eye. I imagine the f700 isn't much different but I don't know for sure. So the bottom line is I wouldn't recomend looking at the F500(just in case you were). Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 The Quantum Accurist is a proven flip/pitch reel. They are super durable and will last you a lifetime. They are the only Quanum reel that I will recommend, but Quantum sure got it right with that one! Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted July 13, 2012 Super User Posted July 13, 2012 x2 on the Revo sx I have one I use as my jig/flip/pitch/punch reel mated with a veritas 7'6" MHF 50# PP and I love it and the drag is very strong and smooth if you back it off to let some be pulled I dragged a 20' branch outa the mud and weeds I had been snagged on so if I can do that and that was 2 seasons ago and its still going strong I have no worries bout a fish. When I bought my first flippin stick, I tryed it and haven't taken it off yet. Mike Quote
dcorp Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 I've owned the Accurist also, the older 500 pt model. Decent reel that can be found on ebay for $50. I bought it because I actually like using a flipping switch.... But I ended up selling it after about a year. Worked fine but my SX felt so much better. What bothered me about the accurist is the side plate that is removable to access the spool always felt a little loose in my hands. It had a tiny bit of play when it was locked down, not sure if that was my model or if they were all like that. Quote
