Copolymer Vs Mono

recently got spool of trilene mono for gift.....not a big fan of using mono as i have switched to floro n braid, went to return to see that they had a copolymer line ive heard of this before and wasnt exactly sure what it was and its effectiveness think its mono but not sure any info would help( the line was berkeley trans optic, in case that helps or if anyone has opinions on it) thanks

Marketing fluff. Most "monos" are a copolymer of some type in all actuality. Different recipes can cause some differences in the final product, but the basic construction of them is a basic one (mono) strand of nylon. Some are coated, extruded or whatever, but its for the most part its all nylon. People call trilene xt a mono, for a period it was marketed as a copolymer...bottom line is do your research and find out how the line fishes. Pay attention more to diameter than lb test

Copolymer is kind of generic all encompassing term. Different Co- poly lines are constructed differently. Some of them are a blend of 2-3 different types of nylon. Some are a blend of nylon and flourocarbon. That being said, I am a fan of the flouro/ nylon blend. The reason being is the flourocarbon blended lines are less visible below water and tend to keep the nylon from absorbing water. Water absorbtion in nylon line greatly reduces line strength and results in line breakage. I personally use p-line cx. But p-line cxx, p-line flouroclear, and yo-zuri hybrid (mentioned by lgmouthgambler above) are all flouocarbon blend copolymer lines.

I finally found everything Im looking for in a fishing line in Yo Zuri. Its great! I just wish my local Gander Mountain would carry it so I wouldnt have to pay shipping , but its worth it.

I was just getting ready to start a separate thread on something similar. I use mono exclusively (old habits, hard to break, and all that) but am interested in trying a copolymer line based on what I've read here.

I fish with spinning gear, so I've read that what I should get is the Yo Zuri Hybrid UltraSoft... Is that right?

Yes. The p-line cx works well for spinning reels too. All of my outfits (including my frog setup) are spinning. The p-line flouroclear and yo-zuri hybrid will both work ok with spinning set-ups too, from what I hear. The p-line cxx is a no no on spinning rigs.... It is just too stiff to seat properly on the spool most of the time.

i use yo zuri ultra soft on all my spinning setups...and love it....i would recommend using KVD line conditioner...it does make a difference.
