bear_grill Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 I want to purchase a baitcasting combo but I am completely in the dark about what to get..I have looked at the Shimano Chronarch and Quatum Smoke baitcasting reels and I like them both. Price isnt that big of a deal because I have saved up enough, but if I could get out cheeper that would be okay as long as the quality of the rod/reel is good. So help me out! I need to know what reel and what rod to purchase! Thanks! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 12, 2012 Super User Posted July 12, 2012 I'm 100% sure you will love the Chronach. If you are looking for an "all around" rod, I'll suggest the G.Loomis MBR 844C, GLX if that's in your budget. Otherwise the same rod, IMX series. Quote
bear_grill Posted July 12, 2012 Author Posted July 12, 2012 Hmm thats a little pricey, what do you think about putting the chronarch with a 6'6" MH shakespeare ugly stick? Quote
baluga Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Chronarch on ugly stick, not a good idea for the chronarch. Chronarch on 6'6"MH or H Phenix UMBX is a better match if you are limited to budget. I don't feel much of a difference between MBR 783 GLX and 606H Phenix UMBX. Quote
bear_grill Posted July 12, 2012 Author Posted July 12, 2012 Thats still a little pricey. Is there any other reel thats a little cheaper that anyone would suggest? Quote
baluga Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Curado 50e is your best bet, you can still find them on fleabay for around $120. Quote
bear_grill Posted July 12, 2012 Author Posted July 12, 2012 What do you think about the CHronarch on a 6'6" MH St. Croix Mojo Bass? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 12, 2012 Super User Posted July 12, 2012 Curado 50e is your best bet, you can still find them on fleabay for around $120. Great value! Keep an eye on our Flea Market, they pop up there occasionally. No Ugly Stick. A "gently used" Avid will cost you around $125; G.Loomis IMX $150 or so.. Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted July 12, 2012 Super User Posted July 12, 2012 What do you think about the CHronarch on a 6'6" MH St. Croix Mojo Bass? Good idea, hell, even the Abu Veritas or Vendetta is nice. Quote
bear_grill Posted July 12, 2012 Author Posted July 12, 2012 Should I go with the Medium or Medium Heavy? and which chronarch would you reccomend? the 200E5 or E6? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 12, 2012 Super User Posted July 12, 2012 Here ya go. This is in the Flea Market right now: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/104704-st-croix-avid-for-saletrade/ Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted July 12, 2012 Super User Posted July 12, 2012 Should I go with the Medium or Medium Heavy? and which chronarch would you reccomend? the 200E5 or E6? I like speed, si I fish E7, I wouldnt go any slower than E6. Go MH on the rod. Quote
jj'sbassinforfun Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 If your looking to save a dime on the rod end, Check out the Powell's Diesel. Good performance from a moderately priced rod. I'm also liking my Shimano Convergence. The E5 for deep cranks, The E6 is about the best all around and can be used for about anything. For bottom fishing(T-rig/jigs/C-rigs/shaky heads) go with the E7. I also like the 7's for top water and froggin. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted July 13, 2012 Super User Posted July 13, 2012 New you can also look at the Denali Rosewood, Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth, Phenix Recon, Savvy, Excel, Compre, Premier, Light and Tough, T-Series, Original, Bucoo, Pinnacle, Powell, etc., etc., etc. Used look at Champion, Avid, GLoomis, Phenix Ultra MBX, Cumara, Zillion, Cara T7, Powell, Cashion, etc., etc., etc. Besides the 2 reels you mentioned, you might look at Lews Tournament Pro, Zillion, Patriarch, President, Premier, STX or Pinnacle Optimus. Then we have the TD-X, TD-Z, Pixy, Sol, Fuego, Curado 200E7 and 50E, Chronarch 100A or 100B, Patriarch XT, etc. There are currently 3 new Advantage TD-A 153HSTA reels being sold elsewhere for $100 plus $8 shipping which is a very good deal. I believe these listed new for $179. It all boils down to personal taste. I picked up 3 Abu Black Max 1600C round reels. I have been very impressed with the performance of the one I have been using.
