We in the community here are glad our neighbor took care of business, and thankful that he is alright. Keep safe, and shoot straight. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted July 12, 2012 Super User Posted July 12, 2012 Good for him. Hope the daughter will be able to get thru the trauma with no lasting effects Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted July 13, 2012 Super User Posted July 13, 2012 I'm glad he and the daughter are ok, but I have to say HMMMM and scratch my head. 4 guys in th daughter's room? I wonder if she knew the suspects? Very attractive? Quote
preach4bass Posted July 13, 2012 Author Posted July 13, 2012 I couldn't say Blvd, but it seems to be a random act. In fact, I was telling my wife last night that their house has all the right characteristics to be a victim of such an act. It is located on a remote road, the nearest neighbor is over half a mile away (with the woods separating them), their yard is open, their driveway is paved, etc. On paper, it seems like the perfect place to rob/invade. No one is going to come down that road after 10 PM, no one would hear you break a door down or fire a shot from within the house, and no vehicular evidence of pulling off the road would be found because of the driveway. We here in the community have certainly given them the benefit of the doubt and chalked this up to a random act of violence by some evil people. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted July 13, 2012 Super User Posted July 13, 2012 I think he needs to learn to shoot better they were able to make it off his property id want em DRT or close to it if it comes to the point where bullets fly im not trying to wound. Quote
preach4bass Posted July 14, 2012 Author Posted July 14, 2012 I'm sure he wasn't "trying" to wound them. He was awoken in the middle of the night, walked in on the scariest situation imaginable (his child with a gun to her head), and a fire fight broke out. His main objective was to protect his daughter. Mission accomplished. If he could have pushed the "pause" button and taken his time (time he didn't have) he probably would have killed them all. I'm just glad it worked out the way it did. He's alive, his daughter is alive, two criminals are toating some lead in them, and two others are behind bars. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted July 14, 2012 Super User Posted July 14, 2012 Yea, his house does seem like the perfect target. I could only imagine what would have happened if she was home alone. Please take some precautions and add extra security lights, cameras and alarm if your place is as secluded as his. Quote

I wonder if she knew the suspects? Very attractive? I thought this too. I'm thinking more the "attractive" scenario. They were scumbag stalkers. If she knew them, she must have really ticked someone off. Either way, It's f'ed up. Quote

X2 Four targets within fifteen feet and he didn't drop them where they stood? Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted July 14, 2012 Super User Posted July 14, 2012 X2 Four targets within fifteen feet and he didn't drop them where they stood? agreed but close range terminal ballistics might not be that good who knows what he had for ammo. Im glad everything came out the way it did though I mean about his daughter being safe granted he took a bullet as well but it could have been worse. Nerves probably got to him or he doesn't practice and train. Quote
Traveler2586 Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 .................................Nerves probably got to him or he doesn't practice and train. I think you hit the nail on the head on both counts...... If your going to have them you need to practice, practice, practice, practice, practice, ........ Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted July 14, 2012 Super User Posted July 14, 2012 I think you hit the nail on the head on both counts...... If your going to have them you need to practice, practice, practice, practice, practice, ........ very true I cant tell ya how many times iv been at home shooting at the range and had my military drills just happen with out thinking about it. we will be shooting and iv got some full size silhouette targets and i always find my self putting em all nicely center mass and when standing my ready up drills come back and turn square to my target up pop pop and back down every now and then it gets 3 the 2 in the chest one in the head at close quarters. doing that with the SKS is killer on your arms lol and your finger with that hard trigger that thing has. Pistols heck line it up cover your target with the slide pretty much don't even aim really squeeze em off and there all center mass might require some adjusting but 99% the time your on target and there not going any where if it was a person. .Paxamus. Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Still kind of hard for me to imagine sending hot stuff with my daughter down range. Got plenty firearms and VERY willing to use them if someone threatens our family. I sure hope that I am never put in the position where one of them would be in danger, but if so I hope it ends with them being safe. Quote
RyneB Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 In this situation, the only gun i would want would be a rifle. I am an OK pistol shot, but with a family member in the room and under stress. I would not want a pistol. I wouldnt even want a shotgun unless i had slugs. Not many people like rifles for home defense, but its accurate and you can engage multiple targets without losing focus. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted October 28, 2012 Super User Posted October 28, 2012 do you mean like an AR or a bolt rifle. Me my .243 I wouldn't want in home defense unless well no I wouldn't want it lol. I cant hit the broad side of a barn with it up close you get out there a little ways and I'll put it between your eyes every time but Iv missed 2 woodchucks with it under 20 yards keep forgetting you gotta aim high up close. Now an AR no problem we just did some shoot houses last week I would have no problem using an AR for home defense. Quote
nick76 Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 You darn well better know where your family is if you are going to be shooting a rifle throughout your house. Most on here were worried about over penetration with the daughter being so close. If you are not worried about penetration then it is just a personal preference and what you are most comfortable with. Being woke up in the middle of the night to something like this I would be closest to my handgun and not as close to my M4. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted October 28, 2012 Super User Posted October 28, 2012 Bullet selection comes into play if your serious bout protection in my opinion. Me and a close buddy here in my squad were having a conversation about this just the other day. His house has been broken into 4 times in the last 2 years and just this year while home on leave he was in his restaurant and had a guy pull a gun in his restaurant. He lives and has his business in a not to nice neighborhood in Rochester. He was asking me and a few other "rednecks" about picking up a shot gun for home defense and he wants to get a AR/M4 as well. I told him well the AR may look intimidating its not the best choice we told him get his pistol permit and a mossberg 500 with the cheapest smallest shot possible. He was concerned bout collateral damage and his kids which is why I told him chill shot as its not gonna go threw the walls unless your point blank with it. Then we got into discussion on bullet choices for hand guns. which is where most people I think are lacking in knowledge even most hunters. They make rounds both factory and components for reload that are low velocity and the bullets are made to go in and not come out or stop when they hit something and not go threw the next 3 rooms. Most people stock up on Mil surplus which is FMJ and some times has a steel core. That stuff is made to go threw armor, walls, cars you name it its not the best choice for HD unless you wanna worry bout hitting family or even your neighbors in there house. Look stuff up on youtube if your curious what does what ammo wise there are tons of guys with videos shooting into things to see what the bullet does like when the Zmax ammo came out a guy loaded up some in a 45 I think and shot it into a pair of jeans in a pool then into a dead pig wearing the same jeans. Perfect pedal of the bullet and only went in a few inches and didn't come out. To me the plastic tipped bullets are great for HD they go in and don't come out they will do 100% more damage then FMJ or ball type ammo made for plinking and geneva convention. The plastic tipped and HD rated ammo are made to stop when they hit walls and such or some like the max line up from hornady most of them explode and disintegrate on contact with stuff that's hard even 2x4s and plywood yeah it goes threw plywood but if you ever shoot and have another piece behind it or cardboard look and see what it does its mostly just shrapnel.
