@A-Jay I'm getting a setup very similar to that one tomorrow for my birthday - oh wait I'm not supposed to know that! Anyways its a Rapala fish gripper & scale combo and there's a ring on the gripper that you can attach to the scale or you can use them separately.

If interested, there's a test report on that scale here

Can some who has a 15lb boga grip do me a favor?  I am trying to get an idea about the size of it but can't find a good picture online.  I would love a shot next to a dollar bill or something common like that.

I want a scale/grip to use when shore fishing but I just take a tiny fly fishing sling with me and don't have a ton of room or like to carry a ton of weight.

thanks.

I heard of putting them in a bag then hooking the handles but wouldn't that remove a lot of their coat?

You had the right idea the first time :) It's how I weigh any of my bigger bass where I want an exact measurement. The small bag is slick and doesn't attract/hold water (think slick garbage bags). Absolute minimal physical damage to a fish since they go in head first and bag attaches to clip/hook.

Here's an online pic of a 15# BOGA clipped to your waist...extra attachment is a coiled key holder.

Similar to what @A-Jay and @j bab I have the cheaper Berkley lip gripper that I hold the fish with and then use my digital scale to hold both. I then just subtract the weight of the gripper and all is good. No harm to the fish and quick and easy release.

If you put the grip on the scale before you turn it on does it zero the scale so that you don't have to subtract?

I use the gripper to land almost all of my fish, so unfortunately that doesn't work out for me. I do have a second manual gripper I could use to land the fish initially, and the use use the other to weigh, but as long as I don't screw up the math this has worked for me.

Makes sense! Subtraction isn't that hard anyways :P
