Super User new2BC4bass Posted July 11, 2012 Super User Posted July 11, 2012 Many years ago I used Beetle Spins with Mr. Twister grubs and small Roostertails for crappies. Don't know what the latest fad is. Good luck. Quote
basscrusher Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 2 inch curlytail grubs on a 1/8 oz jighead. 1/4 oz if they are really deep. I always carry several colors, sometimes the hot color switches every hour or so. I always have black, white, and chartreuse, and usually either pink, red, or purple as well. Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted July 11, 2012 Super User Posted July 11, 2012 Crappie love shiners and so do bass so you can kill 2 fish with one fish Quote
Busy Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Same as above. Beetle spins and small grubs on a 1/8oz. jig head. Split shot rig with small hair jigs. Minnows for live bait. Bright colors. Orange, white, pink, chartreuse, lime green. Crappie feed vertically, you want to fish over them with a vertical presentation. I would go for bass. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 13, 2012 Super User Posted July 13, 2012 When I first started fishing with my father we never targeted the smaller fish right off the bat. Most of the time we worked our way down the size chain, starting with pike, walleye, bass, if the bite was weak we fished perch, crappies and bluegills. The procedure varied between inland lakes and Lake St Clair and the Great Lakes, we had salmon and sturgeon and muskie to target first. Quote
tholmes Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 1/16 oz. maribou jigs, white, chartreuse, black all will work at times. Crappie seem to me to be more picky about color than other fish. Tom Quote
flippinbass Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Definitely go for bass but take a couple crappie for dinner ! Quote
GoTakeANap Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 ive always used shinners and jig with them. nothing better than the real thing imo. Quote
