For that amount of money you could get a couple good combos. If you are going to fish with spinnerbaits you should look into get a baitcaster combo as well. There are alot of good (cheap) spinning combos, but you have to be careful on the baitcaster stuff. I wouldn't recommend getting a baitcast combo unless its something like an Abu Garcia. I think the Black Max combo is somewhere around $80.00 and its good quality.

I don't know much about spinning reels but I can shed a little light on baitcasters should you decide to pick one up. For spinnerbaits you probably want to get something about 7' either medium or medium-heavy depending on line choice and a 6.2:1 or 7.1:1 depending on preference. If you fish with worms and such I'd stick with a medium rod. Everybody is different though and i'm sure there are more enlightened people on here than myself that may lead you in a different direction.

Hope this helped! Good luck!

might as well spend some money and get the PQ. 100x better reel tahn the max series reel

You don't mention the type of cover or weight of lures you normally use. Do you fish from a boat or from shore? Fishing from shore can often mean going with a bit shorter rod due to nearby obstructions. A fast action rod normally makes for an all-around rod. Medium or Medium Heavy depending on cover and weight of lures. Spinnerbaits are a favorite lure of mine as well. :)

Basically you are talking about a reel in the $70-$100 range and a rod in the $100-$180 range. Lots of excellent choices. New is good, but used can also be good.

Make sure you don't purchase a rod designated as a cranking rod. You won't be happy with it for most other techniques.

Tackle Warehouse has had the ABU REVO S on sale for $99 with free shipping. All the rods seem far too stiff for me coming from all glass rods but the $59 H2O rods from Academy get good reviews. I have two but haven't had a chance to use them yet. This could get you into a good BC system for about $160.

I posted to go for the president. I used a mojo bass like yours with a president xt for my plastics rod for 3 years. I used the 10 lb test myself. I upgraded to a st croix legend tournament in 6'8" medium/fast paired with a 35 size pflueger patriarch recently...still use 10 lb. test on it.
