I'm not familiar with the specific rod, but the IMX series is where G.Loomis begins to stand out.

RW and DVT are right, the IMX is when you begin to get the benefits of fishing a Loomis. If you can get the IMX or GL3 you are better off, the GL2 is a good rod but it is way overpriced, most rods in that price range have better components, the GL2 is using plain ordinary aluminum oxide guides and while there is nothing wrong with them I expect at least zirconium or alconites at that price point and not to mentio that the GL3 is just a couple of bucks more and a much better rod and the IMX is also close and head and shoulders above the GL2. The only question is to what you like in a rod and the overall feel, I say this because I have a SJR 722 GL3 that I prefer over the IMX simply because the GL3 handle feels much better to me and if the handle is uncomfortable to you then the benefits of the rod will be lost. One last thing, the GL2 is a heavy rod for the price, had they lowered the price on the upgrade or simply left the price the same as it was, it would have been worth looking at but one thing I will give it is the grip and butt section are very nice to hold, if these were in the $120-$130 range I would have one.

ok thanks. i am now left to choose either gl3 or imx. i hear that the imx rods are easy to break however? is this true (i beat the hell out of my rods). is the imx tough enough for heavy cover?

Mossyback falls in line with gl2 and gl3's. Look for IMX's online and you can usually find some on sale for about the same price as a retail Mossyback.

I always heard that the mossyback was a blend of gl3 and IMX. I have it in a bcr854 and also have a 783 in imx a 844 in glx and a 803 in nrx.. The mossyback in my hands is really close to IMX . It doesn't share the same rep as the other's but I have caught a ton of fish on that rod. I don't think you would be disapointed in it at all..

But you could always check with the guys at american legacy and see if you can pick up a used imx or glx..

I don't have any IMXs but I have GLXs and they stand up fine unless you are just a terror with your rods. There are obvious things like stepping on them, slamming them in doors, slamming them down on something hard, etc that will break any rod. Avoid them and you will be fine.
