Super User rockchalk06 Posted July 10, 2012 Super User Posted July 10, 2012 I took my son fishing yesterday evening as we had some cooler temps and lots of cloud cover. He ended up catchin the only fish, a 11" small LM on a 5" Senko in JJ's. Anyway I was running a black/chartreuse jig with a watermelon seed trailer. Not one single bite. On one of my casts I had just brought the jig out of the water and had a good size LM jump out of the water about 4" to try and grab the jig. He ended up hitting the craw but missed the hook. Tried for about 20 minutes in that area with no luck. Never seen a bass let alone any fish do that. Quote
Super User deep Posted July 10, 2012 Super User Posted July 10, 2012 I have had that happen to me too. In fact, that's how I caught my first soft swimbait fish. I was burning back a mattlures softgill because I had a made a (very) wayward cast over an area I already fished. The bait wasn't even swimming, but skiing over the surface. Bait comes out of the water at the end of the retrieve, and a little 1.5# comes flying out after it, lunging at the bait. He clean missed it. I threw the bait right back into the water a couple of feet away, and fish ate it. Quote
lazeebum Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 I have had bass come up out of weeds after baits. It makes yer heart jump when they do that. Quote

Super User clayton86 Posted July 10, 2012 Super User Posted July 10, 2012 Iv had bass and pike both do it pike have taught me not to leave shinny spinners handing off the edge of the canoe I had one jump up and grab a spinner as I was throwing a frog if the butt of the rod wasn't under the seat of the canoe a little I would of lost the pole and fish instead just lost the fish after tryinging to get the pole out and other ones out of the way. The coolest thing i had happen to me was I had a bass jump out on the cast after a frog clear calm flat one morning i made a low side arm cast and a 2lber jumped right in line and timed with my frog as it buzzed over its head. Soon as it hit the water i started burning it back to where the fish landed and just as it got there it blew up on it. Quote
