general3380 Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 I have had a pair of Bolle polarized glasses for a while now, and am ready to step up to Costa's...Does anybody have any feedback on the Double Haul frame? I have a bigger head so I'm a little worried about fit...Also, is there THAT much of a difference between the glass lens and the polycarb.? I mainly fish strip pits and smaller lakes...no huge waters for me. And of course I would wear them pretty much any other time other than fishing...Lens color recommendation? Quote
shallow thinker Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 I have worn Frigates in polycarb and now Harpoons with glass. The glass is superior optically (to me) and I don't feel that it weighs any more than plastic. As for frames, you have to go and try them on since the size recommendation is just a general thing. How it fits your face is what matters. I go with the frame that minimize light coming in around the sides and bottom. I like amber lens and this time I got a green mirror finish which seems to be working OK for me. Good luck Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted July 10, 2012 Super User Posted July 10, 2012 Yeah you need to try a few even the same frame from one to another can fit differently. Havent seen/tried the Double Haul but many others the largest being XL FISCH. Now even frame such as TAG that is Med Lg fit better on me than XL Man-O-War or XL Hammerhead. The lens size is smaller on MOW And HH so that might be why thy seem small just dont look right on me. Here is their site with the frame and size listing. https://www.costadelmar.com/shop/sunglasses#blackfin Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted July 10, 2012 Super User Posted July 10, 2012 You really have to try on every pair to find something that fits properly. I just bought my second pair of Costas, the Fantails, so I now have Green Mirror for fishing and Blue mirror for everyday use, and saltwater. In my opinion, for everyday use go with the blue mirror or gray base lense. It leaves colors in tact, and doesn't make stuff look much darker. And IMO, you have to go with glass. The clarity is unmatched, and they're very hard to scratch. They're a bit heavier, but its only noticeable if you get a frame that doesn't fit. If you get a frame that fits, the lenses will be supported by the whole frame, instead of just a nose piece of the arms of the frame. However, on the Double Haul note, I may purchase a pair before the year ends for a larger lense, and the clear frames which I think look cool. I have yet to try them on though. I also recommend buying a pair of Costa Keeper retainers for your sunglasses. The last thing you want is for your sunglasses to fall into the ocean, lake, ground, and have lost or broken them. I have a pair and use them religiously. And when you dont want your sunglasses on, you can just let them hang by your chest. If you have any questions, let me know and I'll answer them to the best of my ability. Quote
general3380 Posted July 10, 2012 Author Posted July 10, 2012 Thanks everybody, unfortunately the closet dealer is a Gander Mountain that is one hour away. I was in there on Sunday and they had MAYBE ten different styles...none of which was what I was looking for. So I guess I'm going to have to order them and hopefully they have a nice exchange policy. I suppose I'm going to go with the green mirrored lens. I have always worn gray...I wear them for everyday use and work more than fishing (not by choice) Quote
general3380 Posted July 10, 2012 Author Posted July 10, 2012 Another question...I'm actually thinking about getting the silver mirrored lenses. Anybody have these? How are they going to compare to the Green? Like I said, I will mainly be fishing from the bank and from a boat on smaller lake...but everyday wear more than anything. Thanks in advance Quote
