Best Use For Medium/fast Action Rod

A medium strength fast tapered 7ft rod has fallen into my possession, and I am trying to figure out the best use for it. Its a casting rod i am going to pair it up with a BPS PQ, but I can't seem to pinpoint what application it would perform well at. Any input? Thanks all!

Soft jerk baits, lighter t-rigs/plastics, spinnerbaits maybe topwater or shallow cranks and rattle traps. Basically anything that falls within the lure weight range fished in lighter cover or open water.

First thing I thought about was weightless soft plastic jerkbaits. I use a similar rod for ripping traps out the top of submerged grass. Works like a charm.

Thiis rod fits the "all-around" category just fine, but technically it's more specifically

designed for medium weight single hooks: jigs, spinnerbaits, small swimbaits and soft plastics.

I have problems setting the hook with buzzbaits and other single hook baits where you need to really set the hook. The rod seems to take a while to respond and I dont get a deep solid hook set. I end up just keeping pressure on the fish and getting it in the boat ASAP. I have lost several fish on a jump or at the boat.

I use mine for cranks where the trebles usually hook up better with just a pull set.

I like a slower tip for Spinnerbaits, but the fast tip is definitely good for top waters and worm fishing.

7'mf is my favorite BC rod length, power, and action - I have 5 rods of this specification. I fish mostly open water and use rods of this power/action for all the things mentioned above. Although not ideal, and depending on how "fast" the tip actually is, the rod can work for medium-diving cranks as well.

Works for me, from little bass to 48 pound carp...

For a long time and even now in certain situations a medium power, fast action rod was what I used for jerkbaits, it worked the bait really well and while it didn't have the soft action that is normally used for treble hook lure, it had plenty of forgiveness since it was a medium power rod. For that 7' rod, you can use just about anything, but I think it would work ripping lipless cranks off of weed tops as it is perfect for that with the fast action and a medium power has enough forgiveness that you can fight a fish hooked with a treble and not overpower it and pull the hooks out.

It also depends on who made the rod. My 7' med. power/fast action rod is a St Croix LTB, it is about the same power as my buddys Loomis MBR 843 IMX, which Loomis calls a MH powered rod, and is more powerfull than the 6'9" MH/fast Kistler "All Purpose special" I once owned. I use mine for many things, lipless cranks, topwater, spinnerbaits, jigs, worms, square bills, pitching to light/moderate cover, hard and soft jerkbaits, weightless soft plastics, c-rigging, "bubba-shotting", medium running cranks, buzzbaits, and probably more. Most versitile rod I own.

I use that rod for about 75% of everything I throw. Unless it is a heavy jig, frog, or something similiar this rod works. Especially when it is a St. Croix Avid.
