808bass Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 I have an idea that I want to transform into a website but I need your guys opnioin on whether it is worth the expense and work. Basically, it would be a site with a feed like facebook, but a mini profile like twitter... so there is more focus on the photos and videos. inside your profile you could mark locations and such etc... premium membership... what do you guys think? Super User AK-Jax86 Posted July 8, 2012 Super User Posted July 8, 2012 I think that is a good idea if you need help with funding I can help you out. This could be the next Facebook, twitter, instagram all in one but for fishing. This could be huge man Message me Quote
GrundleLove Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 I think that its too much of an undertaking and you probably will never do it. but maybe its a good idea idk...what is your demo? is it larg enough to make a profit? doubtful. Quote
Scorcher214 Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Uhhhh like my "updates" would just be random tips or what? Not sure on what you're trying to create. Just from the real small summary you gave, I wouldn't pay for it. Why would I when I have Bass Resource? Sorry to shoot down your idea but, I already got everything you listed. BR, and youtube. Quote
JigMe Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 U wanna charge membership fees, when there are so many free fishing sites out there? Yeah, I can see this venture is gonna do well. 1 Quote

808bass Posted July 9, 2012 Author Posted July 9, 2012 NO charge at first... once the website helped the members enough I could charge. Could make a premium membership with access to free items etc.. but basically its like a fishing version twitter but more indepth.. I almost have the website setup and I'd need a team behind it.. PM me if interested Quote
tipptruck1 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Its all ready been done. They have a premium membership also. But I think its a waste. All you would be paying for is a topographic maps of lakes. On there site. Here is there site. http://www.lake-link.com/ Quote

All you would be paying for is a topographic maps of lakes. On there site. Here is there site. http://www.lake-link.com/ I don't care too much for cheesehead reports either LOL. tipptruck, I frequent L-L once in awhile and have never been able to get pertinent information.Unless you're a regular poster, people won't even acknowledge you're there. To the OP good luck.I think people who rely on other peoples fishing reports to decide whether to go fishing or not, should just find something else to do. It may be a good idea for a beginner fisherman, but sites like BR and others are much more informative and actually help people catch fish. First off, no one is going to give up their honeyholes. Secondly, If I post a report I'm fishing on "Lake X",and killing them, doesn't mean tomorrow they'll be biting. Lastly, I'm from Chicago. Why would I care what someone is doing halfway across the country?...maybe I'm just old...I share reports with people I knowand people I trust aren't going to fish out bodies of water. Don't know about where you live but we have "Bucketheads" around here. They troll websites and bodies of water and keep everything they catch. Any fisherman with half a brain isn't going to risk that. Quote
808bass Posted July 10, 2012 Author Posted July 10, 2012 What I'm aiming at is more along the lines of this: Say your out at 6:30 AM fishing a new lake in the area.... cant seem to get any bites.. so you visit the website, post a status with a photo included, and other members could comment, give tips, lure advice, etc.. (all in real time).. And pretty much its a constant feed on the homepage... would have apps on desktop, android, iphone etc. Quote

Pm me with more details, I will see what I can do to help. Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Wellllll I hate to be negative but the idea doesn't seem like it would work to me and here's why: what has made fb and twitter so popular is that they are not constrained to one subject matter. You can talk about whatever crosses your mind including fishing. Also the demographics are limited. With fishing the vast majority is male. And on top of that young male will be the only ones posting or tweeting how many +60 year old tweet or post on FB? You are losing most of the female population too which probably does more posting and tweeting than there male counterparts. You will also be restricting yourself to region/state/lake areas too. Personally I don't care what joe smith caught on lake whatever cause I probably won't get to fish there anyway. The last point I want to make is that FB and twitter are only popular cause they are free. There would be a mass exodus if they started charging so your best bet is to rely on sponsors for site costs and businesses will on support a site that has a lot of traffic because they want the most people to see their product for the money they spend. Like I said hate to be negative but you asked for opinions and this is mine. I hope you do move forward with it and it is sucessful because that's what makes our country great. People taking an idea and making it a successful reality regardless of how many naysayers there are. Good luck!! Quote
808bass Posted July 10, 2012 Author Posted July 10, 2012 Ok I have altered the idea a little bit.. The website will load with a map on the front page, where places members have checked in at before, they can attach photos to those locations, and additional information.. they will be a frequent places chart, a live stream feed on the front page below that map, a groups option, search for members... a nice quick loading website... free to use and straight to the point. Easy to load on mobile phones aswell... Quote

Easy to load on mobile phones aswell... Personally opinion, a website is not going to work. A simple reason: who is going to check a website for hints during a fishing trip? If you want to build a website to share location, photo, then it's already been done. If you are working on an apps, then it might work depends on how you write it. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted July 10, 2012 Super User Posted July 10, 2012 You're better off collecting aluminum cans. Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted July 10, 2012 Super User Posted July 10, 2012 I'm not sure what to think. Personally I'm not big on divulging my fishing spots and locations to people. Some people may be, but unless your in my circle I'm not sharing. It very well may work, honestly the only way to find out is to try it. If it works then hells yeah! If not, then learn from it and try again til you get all worked out Quote
808bass Posted July 10, 2012 Author Posted July 10, 2012 So you think it would be better if it was just a small social network consisting of a live stream, photos and videos? I appreciate the feedback anyway Quote
808bass Posted July 10, 2012 Author Posted July 10, 2012 And of course you wouldn't have to put a spot on there that people would "Steal" from you Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted July 10, 2012 Super User Posted July 10, 2012 It sounds like you basically want to make a forums website. Regardless, I dont think I would join. Everything you want to do I can basically do here. Quote

Now after following the direction of this topic, I'm faced with the chance to limit out all in one post! What in the heck (I had a different word that starts with an H and ends with two hockey sticks) has happened to the world when we have raised a generation that can't put down their smart phones long enough to go fishing armed with nothing but a rod and reel and the grey matter between their ears? Besides the fact that any possible members fishing in a tournament would most likely be breaking the rules for using this "service" while they're on the water, I can only imagine the answers a person would recieve. "Fish a Senko!" On a brighter note, I think your idea is not only going to be a smashing success on the water with the younger generation, but has a lot of potential off the water too. How about another application called the Bar App? Let's say your buddy puts the moves on some hot looking chick. The user could zoom into the bimbo for everybody to check out, and then ZOOOOM out to show all of Two-Ton Tessy who just happens to be this gal's BFF. Post the question, take a poll. Should you man up and do your part as your buddy's wingman, or retreat to the bathroom so you can escape out the window, running away down the street like you're on fire! God only knows it will only be a matter of time before the next logical app is created! Sorry - Rant Over. 1 Quote
