The Brim Reaper Posted July 9, 2012 Author Posted July 9, 2012 I didn't have a problem with the stoppage. If Lavigne had let it continue, I wouldn't have had a problem with that, either. Overall, it was a disappointing card. I agree with you, Tipptruck. As long as the fight is entertaining (like Shogun v. Henderson), it can go all 3 or 5 rounds. Quote
tipptruck1 Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I do not want to start a other thread. I heard this morning that ufc 153 will be Rampage Jackson's last fight. With a lot of guys in the MW, lh, and hw classes. Getting up there in age. The ufc will look totally different in the next 5 years. in the last three years some of the biggest names in UFC have retired. I know Dana will not let the biggest classes in the ufc die. But it seems like the lesser known guys don't have the skills. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted July 11, 2012 Super User Posted July 11, 2012 They're definitely going to need some flashy younger guys coming in to take over the reins for guys like GSP, BJ, Silva, Rampage, Dan Henderson, Rua, etc. All the PRIDE veterans that gave the UFC a nice boost the past couple years will probably be done within the next 2-3 years. That being said, if there are guys like Jon Jones coming through the ranks MMA will continue to get bigger and bigger. Quote
The Brim Reaper Posted July 11, 2012 Author Posted July 11, 2012 It really sucks seeing the veterans retire. He hasn't done so yet, but Wanderlei will probably be another one soon. Quote
tipptruck1 Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Yea I was thinking about who is in the 30-35 year old crowd. I would say at lest 75% of the whole UFC roster is in that age group. Here is the current roster of the UFC. I have no clue when it was wrote. But it gives a good idea and who is left after the PPV sellers retire. http://en.wikipedia....nt_UFC_fighters This is what I will always remember of Jackson though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOJAj-Zbu9c It did help the UFC when pride fighters fought in the UFC. It is just sucks that people age. I have seen them old pride fights on tv. They looked so cool. I know when I play ufc 3 on the ps3. I only do pride fights. Speaking of pride. This has to be the best fight I have ever seen. Watch intill the end. Quote
The Brim Reaper Posted July 12, 2012 Author Posted July 12, 2012 That fight was awesome. Just like Frye's trunks. I'm sure the UFC will continue to do what it's already doing: signing the best fighters from other promotions. Who the hell would pass up the UFC? Besides, as many countries as the UFC is gaining entrance to, I'm sure there's plenty of foreign fighters to be had. Quote
tipptruck1 Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 the UFC owns every major promotion now. The only ones they don't own. Are the ones that are no threat to them. I do not like it as a fan. It has the monopoly effect. But it will allow Fighters from Strike force and UFC to go between them two. Quote
jwhowells Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Looks like Chris Weidman has the skills to take on Silva. I was impressed with his domination of Munoz. Quote
SouthrnMisnomer Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 i actually enjoyed the Fuel TV card last night more than UFC 148.. weidman/munoz showcased weidman, beltran/tehuna was incredible...and i enjoyed the majority of the card. I wish FOX would ditch its efforts with Fuel and feed more events to FX. Quote

But I am never looking that far down in the channel guide. Quote
craww Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Guys are so career concious these days. Lets face it, the fact GSP, ANDERSON, Bones, etc won't fight each other is the fact that they might lose. It's all about their brand. I'd love to see some of the old school one night tournaments where guys fight multiple times in a night, how awesome would that be? Quote
tipptruck1 Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 I heard Dana say why they do not have them turnys any more. They had to dump them to be legal. I am not sure were I heard it but I know I have heard him say it. Quote

tipptruck1 Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Well I also think the fighters can get away with it for a few reasons. There not in the same weight class. being the biggest. So say Jones drops to 185 and works up to the middle weight belt. Silva would have no choice to fight him. Vise versa if Silva jumped up. If I recall it it right also. Ortiz was threatened of having his belt taken away from him a few times. He didn't want to fight shamrock and Liddel. Any UFC fan knows the story behind them fights. Quote
craww Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Yeah theres been a few times were the guys wereout of the same camp or friends or what not and wouldnt fight. These guys just dont wanna lose. I saw an interview with Bones the other day where he literally came out and said it. I loved BJ Penn's take on the weightclass thing, he basically said "I'm a fighter...period!". Love or hate guy he had a warriors spirit. He didnt buck at fighting Matt Hughes, GSP, even though they were bigger dudes. The weight cut is more drastic for some guys. Supposedly Anthony Rumble Johnson walks around the same size as Cain Valasquez lol. Quote
The Brim Reaper Posted July 14, 2012 Author Posted July 14, 2012 I hate this. The reason I stopped watching boxing was because the best weren't fighting the best. I understand that the champs want to protect their legacies, but I'll still love them just the same if they lose. It's not as if they stop being great fighters if they lose superfights. Quote
