The Brim Reaper Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 I've been dying for the Silva v. Sonnen rematch, so I'm absolutely buying the PPV. Anyone else? Quote
tipptruck1 Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Not sure if I will be watching or not. I cant see my self spending 50 dollars on a mian event. So I might just head to a bar. I just hope Sonnen is all bite with all the bark he has been throwing around. I know he only lost there last fight in the final minutes by submission. I do no think he we lose this one. Quote
Jake P Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Man i heard about this for the first time today and im shocked!!! Since I watched their original fight I have been waiting for a rematch. I will either order it or head to hooters with some friends and watch it. Sonnen is a warrior but Silva was clearly the seasoned vet their first bout. Silva isnt called the best pound for pound fighter in the WORLD for no reason. I dont see Silva getting beat. He is just way too good. Kind of like betting against MJ in his prime its just not smart. tipptruck1 Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Silva is a lot like Jones. There only about 6ft tall. But they have the reach and legs of a man 7ft tall. They both are hard to predict what they will do next. They can faint with there leg. Then you see a fighter getting punched in the head out of no were. A few months back Jim Rome was asking Jones about fighting Silva. He laughed and said that will never happen. Jim asked why. Jones said there buddy's and agreed to never fight. I do not know about you. But I would love to see them to fight. They are two of the best fighters right now in the ufc. Quote

I have Silva winning, but won't be surprised if Sonnen takes it. What I loved about Sonnen in the first fight is his fearlessness. Most of Silva's opponents are hesitant to engage with the guy. Not Sonnen! Did you see the weigh-ins by any chance? Quote

We don't have a Hooter's or Buffalo Wild Wings, or anything like that. Plus, I like to hear Rogan's hilarious commentary, so watching it in a public place ruins that. I'm so psyched, dude! It's gonna be nice to finally put all the controversy surrounding the first fight to rest. Quote
Jake P Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 I want to see bones and Silva almost as much as Pacquaiou and Mayweather Quote
SouthrnMisnomer Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 I will be watching via means other than me flopping out 50 bucks. I've got Silva winning this fight. I don't think Sonnen will be able to get his lay and pray style in full effect now that Anderson has seen it once. That and Sonnen looked terrible against Bisping in his last fight. Silva is just smooth and seemingly motivated to shut chael up. Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Silva got hit with a good shot early on Last time an IMO never fully recovered. I say he wins convincingly and also sends a message to chael about who the real champion is. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted July 7, 2012 Super User Posted July 7, 2012 I was just reading about Silva shoulder checking Sonnen at the weigh in. I have no way of watching the fight or id be all over it our internets to crappy to stream it over here. Just gonna have to wait for a report on here. Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted July 7, 2012 Super User Posted July 7, 2012 Me, my girlfriend, and my new born are goin to the Mandarian Ale House, sports bar and grill, to watch the fights. I want silva to win. Quote
tipptruck1 Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 First I would like to thank Tito. With out you and others. The ufc would not be were it is today. I would also like that thank him for showing class tonight. Usually he don't show class after a loss. Griffin doing the interview was great. I wish we could see more things like that. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted July 8, 2012 Super User Posted July 8, 2012 WOW ! Sonnen just got his face punched in. Silva is still the best - was there ever any doubt ? A-Jay 1 Quote
tipptruck1 Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Silva please fight Jones. You need a real fight. 1 Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Silva please fight Jones. You need a real fight. Will probably never happen. They are to good of friends. I think the best chance for a super fight with silva would be st Pierre. Quote
tipptruck1 Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 I heard St. Pierre is happy at his weight class. He wont jump up or dawn any more. Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Personally I would love to see machida drop down and fight Anderson. Not sure that would happen either but I think it would make for a good fight. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted July 8, 2012 Super User Posted July 8, 2012 Weak, weak, weak. Sonnen destroyed Silva in R1, no argument there. Then R2 starts and Sonnen has Silva in the clinch for quite a while and Silva is literally grabbing and pulling on Sonnen's shorts to keep from getting taken down and the ref is completely oblivious (this is a verbal warning and the second offense would be a point deduction). Anyhow, Silva keeps holding them and doesn't let go until Sonnen's shorts literally start riding up his side. Even with his shorts heading up onto his ribs, the ref says nothing. Fast forward... Sonnen throws a terrible spinning back fist, loses his balance, and falls down. Silva sprints forward and throws a knee that catches Sonnen in the upper chest (???)- almost looked like part of the leg got his chin which would be an illegal strike and result in a pause in the action to allow Sonnen to recover. Anyhow, Sonnen turtles up and blocks every one of Silva's follow ups with his forearms and gloves (some of the punches got nothing but air) and then the ref steps in to stop the title fight labeled as the "Biggest Fight in UFC History" when no one is seriously injured or even taking punishment. Shane Carwin hit Brock Lesnar with hard shots in the same position for probably 2 minutes in their title fight and Lesnar was jacked up... makes no sense to let that title fight go (Lesnar came back to win) but call this one. I was just hoping for a competitive controversy free fight, and this one ended in a joke IMO... did not get the $55 worth. I also felt Tito won 2/3 rounds and should have won 29-28 since he had the takedowns in R1 and R3 and actually dropped Forrest twice. Forrest was more active (Tito gassed very early), but he never once had Tito in any trouble. That being said, they've both been great in their respective careers and look ready for retirement. Quote
tipptruck1 Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Well Silva has fought at 205 many times. In pride that is what he fought at. He even fought a few 205 fights in the UFC. I really thought the whole card was boreing. Other the Griffin Ortiz. It was a rather boreing fight night. Now I do not need lots of blood to make it good. I need action. That is what I really hate about the lighter classes. They spend all three rounds hugging. Or its over in seconds with a submission. I know the has been blood battles in the lighter classes. There just rare. Also a fact Silvas only lost came from a illegal blow. He his a dirty fighter. But he is a good fighter. It also seems like any fight he has been in. There is always some thing illegal he dose. One day it will cost him. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted July 8, 2012 Super User Posted July 8, 2012 All I can add is....YAWN. Glad I didn't have to pay to watch it. I was really hoping for more with all the hype built up into the Sonnen and Silva fight. Meh. Disappointing overall. Quote

The knee was legal. Sonnen turtles up and had NO defense. At least lesner would throw a punch or switch his hips every now and then. As far as Tito and Forrest ..... You have got to be kidding ... Forrest beat the pants off of Tito. Other than 2 good punches and a takedown Tito had nothin. He needs to retire. I like Tito I've watched just about every fight hes had including his first as an alternate but he looked to be fighting in slow motion I agree the ppv as a whole was aweful. I was hoping for better. Jake P Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 I think the Silva Sonnen fight was called a little to quickly. Dissapointing for sure. I do think its funny though that Chael lost after all the talking he does. It reminds me of something my mom and dad told me when i was little. You usually dont have to worry about the loud ones, its the quiet ones who are the most dangerous. Quote
SouthrnMisnomer Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 I have no complaints on the PPV card.. Anderson/GSP headlined events suck over all... Basically Cung Le is probably not coming back unless he gets a creampuff, Cote has never done well in the octagon(he may get one more fight), Tito has been done for years and if Bader hadn't taken him lightly, tito would have been done earlier. I love Forrest but he looks like a guy headed toward retirement soon as well. I felt like this was a card that was win or get cut from the roster. I don't know if it will happen, but I would cut the majority. As for Chael.. the guy is a pressing lay and pray guy. He's hard to handle for most. He exposes weaknesses for sure. I think he's humorous, but not a champion. A quality gatekeeper if the judges are good. And though the fight was called rather quickly, its not the judges fault he just laid there, covered up and didn't move. If you want to survive..move and frankly Chael couldn't breath. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted July 9, 2012 Super User Posted July 9, 2012 It always cracks me up when the ref calls a fight for "not intelligently defending" ones self. Turtled up with your forearms blocking your face is the most intelligent way to defend yourself if you're ever on the ground with someone throwing haymakers at your head. Chael wasn't hurt, but it did look like he had pretty much given up at that point and just wanted the fight to be over. Why he didn't just lie on his back and take Silva into his guard is beyond me. He put his chest on a tee up against the fence and let Silva blast him with a running start. Silva has some serious cojones for taking the knee to his upper chest... Sonnen drops down and takes that in the head and it's a automatic DQ. Big props to Silva for bringing it like a champ. The shorts grab still drives me crazy. Rewatch the fight... almost 20 seconds as he hangs on to keep from being taken down when Chael had his legs (previously never stopped Chael from taking him down from this position) and then he pressed forward using Sonnen's shorts to pull him in tight as Sonnen was attempting to step back (Anderson hits him with some right hands while blatantly pulling his shorts right in front of the ref). If he didn't hold onto the shorts for 20 seconds he m-a-y have spent another 4 minutes on his back. Quote
