Super User Sam Posted July 6, 2012 Super User Posted July 6, 2012 Thinking about pruchasing an iPhone. Read where the new edition will be released this fall. 1. What are your experiences with iPhones. 2. Do you suggest another brand that you like better than the iPhone? 3. Do you think I need to wait for the updated version to be released? Thanks in advance for your feedback. Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Love love love the iphone. I had a blackberry before and they are worlds apart. Iphone is very user friendly and has The Most apps of any smartphone out there. Much like fondling a reel in bps i have played around with droids and they are ok but i will not trade my iphone for anything. Do you need to wait? IDK i have the iphone4 and it does everything i need it to do and more. Can't really say if its worth waiting because i dont know what kind of improvements they will have. Really its gonna be like a shimano vs daiwa vs abu type of argument with iphone vs droid vs galaxy. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted July 6, 2012 Super User Posted July 6, 2012 I hate my iPhone and I hated my droid. the only reason I hate my iPhone is I hate apple products yes user friendly but you can only use their products. Using the internet on my droid was much much easier and user friendly compared to the iPhone. If I wanted to download a video or picture I could or post a pic I could. With the iPhone you have to down load an app to do anything extra and you have to pay for the apps yes they are better but even the free ones only do so much before you have to buy the paid version. The Gps on the droid is also better IMHO I relied on it heavily for when i worked deliveries over the summer for the school doing moves I switched to the iPhone half way threw the season and it was the worst gps I had ever dealt with the junk the military gives us works better or a watch type garmin was more accurate then that iPhone. How ever there are alot of supporters of all the phones all with great points me personally I probably couldn't live with out a smart phone but hate all of them lol Quote
quanjig Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Sam, what would you be doing specifically with a smart phone and narrow down your choices from there. I think like technique specific combos, what works best for you. I have the iPhone 4 and it does what I need it to do for my work and lifestyle. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted July 6, 2012 Super User Posted July 6, 2012 Go Driod with 4G service, not stuck using what Apple allows you to use on your own property and the 4G service is extremely fast. 1 Quote
craww Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Get the samsung galaxy s3. I got mine last week and couldnt be happier. It does everything very, very well. I don't care what features the current our future generations of Iphones have, the exclusive content junk they put you through is ridiculous...The hoops you have to jump through with the itunes store to get YOUR media is a joke. Quote
Super User MCS Posted July 6, 2012 Super User Posted July 6, 2012 Iphone has better apps, and is more user friendly. Love the flexible wifi, bluetooth, 3G features. Very nice camera and video on the 4. My wife had a HTC and we took it back to the store after a couple weeks. The HTC and windows phones run apps constantly and do other retarded stuff. Why do you need to purchase a program to kill the apps is beyond me? and almost all the junk on the HTC like blockbuster can't be deleted. So where is the freedom there, apple doesn't force you to keep junk from any vendor. It is too each his own. We have had Iphones since the orignial. My only complaint with the 4 is the cell signal. but other than that I love it. JMO Question for the non Iphone users can you turn your phones to a wifi hotspot? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 6, 2012 Super User Posted July 6, 2012 My only complaint with the 4 is the cell signal. Who uses their iPhone to make calls anyway, lol. I like my iPhone just fine. Sam, you should probably find a friend with one, and play with it. Quote

Well I should clarify, the 4's singal is worse than my 3gs, but I am also using the older model of the 4 not the 4s so if your getting the new one I wouldn't even worry the issue is probably been fixed Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 6, 2012 Super User Posted July 6, 2012 I have a 4s, the phone reception sucks. It's OK, I hardly use the phone anymore. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted July 6, 2012 Super User Posted July 6, 2012 I have a 4s, the phone reception sucks. It's OK, I hardly use the phone anymore. and to think a year ago I was in your boat and all you had a was a track phone and didn't understand the need for anything else and left smart phones for the family lol Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 6, 2012 Super User Posted July 6, 2012 You know it, bro. I'm all sucked into it. Quote
Super User MCS Posted July 6, 2012 Super User Posted July 6, 2012 I have a 4s, the phone reception sucks. It's OK, I hardly use the phone anymore. maybe they didn't fix it then LOL but yeah it isn't enough of a reason to make me switch to a droid or windows phone or whatever they are. Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted July 6, 2012 Super User Posted July 6, 2012 I have the 4s for Verizon and my service is fine. I use to be an iphone HATER and had the droid, then I got the iphone and joined the cult. I swear by it now! I has and basically does everything. I will definitely be getting the new iphone when it comes out. The only thing they need to fix is the clarity of the camera zoom and make the video camera be able to zoom. I'm not sure if I am the only person who has figured this out but apple just releases bit by bit for their phones so they can say it is NEW. We all know they have the capability to make a flawless phone but why release that now when you can keep on cashing in. That is why they are a multi BILLION dollar company. I'd wait if I were you until they release the new iphone and go out and get it. I have the white 4s... I want them to make a silver new one and i will be all over that Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted July 6, 2012 Super User Posted July 6, 2012 If you don't want to wait get the phone from best buy there insurance is cheaper and better then carriers offered insurance plus if a new one is released within so many days i think its 60 or 90 you can swap yours for the new one that's what my wife did with hers I kept mine at the 4 she bumped to the 4s. Super User Sam Posted July 6, 2012 Author Super User Posted July 6, 2012 Wow! Thanks for all of the input. Sincerely appreciate it. Quote

I rooted one of my HTC phones I'm using now, and increased battery life by over 60%. You have the capabilities of doing a thousand times more stuff, and optimizing your cell phone with a android phone then with an iPhone. Apple has everything on that phone locked down tighter than fort Knox. Plus the "new" iPhone every 6months is annoying to me. Granted a large number of people love Apple and their products. They are just too restrictive and costly for me. SAM. As far as phones go, most high end smart phones will do whatever you need from it. If you want simplicity then by all means get an iPhone. If you want to play with your phone and get the most from it (capability wise) get an android phone. The biggest thing to look at is how you interact with its user interface. Both the iPhone and android phones are similar in how they operate and different. Go to the store and play with the different phones to get an idea of what you prefer. As for apps, I really don't know much about Apple's apps, as I have limited experience with them. For the most part though, I believe they are pretty much the same. Quote
Broke bass fisherman Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Absolutely can not live without my IPhone 4. Wife had a samsung galaxy and she hated it with more fury than I thought was possible. She recently upgraded to the iPhone 4s and is happier than all get out. I would recommend them but it all depends I what you need them for. I use mine for everything hardly open up the laptop except when I am at work. Quote

You rooted, you had to change a bunch of crap etc etc because it sucked in its original state out of the box. Why bother. iPhone's are better out of the box, they are better period lol Quote

My wife is the only person I know who hasn't jail broke there iPhone Quote
Super User MCS Posted July 7, 2012 Super User Posted July 7, 2012 I never have with one of the 5 me and my wife have owned it does everything i need it to. jeeze what do you people do with your phones? LOL I couldn't image it doing any more. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted July 7, 2012 Super User Posted July 7, 2012 turn it into a router, free apps, free music, droid apps, able to delete icons you don't want or use, different messenger, the list goes on and on and on. Quote

Router? it already does a hotspot. I dunno, that is out of my league lol. Quote

He likes it much better then his iPhone and he works for apple when were not doing this army thing he basically uses his phone as a iPod touch now. There's a ton of things to do to the iPone once jailbroken but i mostly used it for the free apps and I changed the carrier so it doesn't say Verizon on the top it has my kids names there now and the signal bars is now the monster symbol instead of the typical bars. MrSwimJig Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 If you want a phone that just flat out works perfectly and you don't have to worry about anything the the iPhone is for you. If you like to customize and change things then the iPhone is still for you, just jailbreak it, Very easy to do these days. Now if you really like tinkering under the hood and really getting down and altering the system the a Android phone is the way to go. Sam, sounds like to ma an iPhone 4S will just be perfect for you and you will love it, everything just flat out works perfectly every time all the time. 1 Quote
