I have a Garmin Nuvi and a TomTom. To me the TomTom is much worse at planning long routes (state-to-state) than the Garmin. What are your experiences?

I downloaded WAZE for my iPhone. It's free and it's a complete turn by turn nav app. Has online users that post traffic accidents, stopped cars, construction etc. one of the best I have ever used. Oklahoma City is changing like crazy and this app and gps is the only one I have ever used. I assume it's on the Droid market too. Best of all it's free

I don't use an in car GPS anymore, I use my smartphone for everything now. Like the above poster, I have Waze and love it, also Telnav is a good one for a smart phone.

TomTom - It gets us to the places we want to go but you need a paper map as the TomTom will always put you on the interstates when there are shorter routes.

The maps between the 2 arent different. You can adjust the travel time by shortest distance in miles or shortest distance in minutes on either. I like the picture of the garmin way better than the tom tom, it is much more detailed and Garmin will show you the exact lane you need to be in. I use a GPS about 8-17 hours a day for work and my Garmin Nuvi has never let me down.

I have a Kenwood DVD 7" Touchscreen unit in my car and I use Kenwood's GPS. I personally like Verizon Navigator that is on my phone. Whenever I hook up my iphone to my DVD screen I use VZ Navigator because I like it better since I have been using it ever since smartphones came out

I've got a TomTom with free map upgrades. Never had it fail me yet.

I have never used one. I hate driving right up on something and then trying to figure out how to get around it. Its much easier to check the web pages of the state highway dept. and then plan accordingly.
