NoBassPro Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 I know there are other gardeners on here, so who else makes their own salsa? With the weather we've been having the main things that seem to be doing well for me are tomatoes, peppers, and some herbs. Going to be the year of salsa and spaghetti sauce I guess. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 6, 2012 Global Moderator Posted July 6, 2012 I've tried several times but it never tastes right. I'm trying to make salsa like the kind you'd eat on chips, not for topping your burrito with, a thicker dipping salsa. Quote
NoBassPro Posted July 6, 2012 Author Posted July 6, 2012 Might have to try adding tomato paste to it. I prefer melting velveeta cheese with salsa when dipping tbh. Also, if your recipe includes cilantro cut back, it has a soapy after taste to me anyway. Quote
Sfritr Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 The main problem with making your own salsa at home is that most people use regular tomatoes, big boys, beefsteak, etc. These tomatoes have too much juice and not enough meat. Most good salsa recipes will use Roma or plum tomatoes. All you really need is a few grilled tomatoes, garlic, lime juice, grilled onion, cilantro, a roasted jalapeno, and a roasted red pepper. Salt/pepper and your good to go. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted July 6, 2012 Super User Posted July 6, 2012 I have a killer recipe at home I can post later. Very thick and not too runny once you strain it Quote
