MBernardez Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Hi, I have a shimano spinning reel which i've read works best with power pro line. Im having trouble determining what line color i should use and what weight. Ill be fishing top water lures on a fairly clear to brown lake up in minnesota. ill be fishing for large mouth bass averaging at maybe 2 or 3 pounds. what weight and color would you guys suggest? mod479 Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Your shimano will work fine with all kinds of line...not just power pro. Stay away from fluorocarbon with topwater baits. -10lb test / 2lb diameter power pro in green if you want braid. Monofilament will also work well for topwater since it floats. -Sufix Elite 6-8 lb test in green or clear. This stuff is a very supple and smooth handling line. I prefer copoly for just about everything however, and I'd suggest: -Yo-Zuri hybrid in smoke purple or camo green. 4-6lb test. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 5, 2012 Super User Posted July 5, 2012 I would not recommend braid. Mono or Hybrid are better choices. Green matches up almost perfectly with gin clear water. Yo-Zuri #6 has a breaking strength of 11.9 lbs. This is all you really need on spinning gear. Quote
B@ssCrzy Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 I always use a mono leader with my braid. So I actually have yellow high viz PP 15 lb on my spinning gear. I believe that some fish are affected by seeing the line, so whether it is green, brown, yellow, or red in a clear water situation they are going to be able to see it unless you have a clear leader on it. The yellow helps you to see it when using other techniques like texas rigging where you may have slack line and need to watch your line to detect a bite. But that's just me. Quote
