mg4u2nv Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Went out yesterday morning on my day off, and took my step daughter with me as she wanted in on some snakehead action. My 2nd cast of the morning yielded that monster, and about 20 minutes later my step daughter landed her first snakehead! I caught 6 overall with this the biggest, the others werent more than 20 inches or so. My step daughter had an absolute blast and cant wait to do it again! Hope you enjoy! Matt Quote
jslacker Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 What bait were you using? There a snake heads rumored in our local pond but I can't seem to get one. Quote
Shane Procell Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Cool!!! Don't know the spot, but looks like it's easy to fish. Quote
mg4u2nv Posted July 5, 2012 Author Posted July 5, 2012 @slacker, bait was a bps humpin toad in black. @shane, it is a very easy stretch of canal to fish. only about 15 yards across and approx 1/2 mile of walkable shore. Have quite a few other spots in the springs area and i'm pretty sure that was my biggest snakehead so far! Matt Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted July 6, 2012 Super User Posted July 6, 2012 That canal that runs along the Sawgrass is loaded. Good catch. Quote
Diggy Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 sweet catch! I have been hitting up spots crazy and as recent as today, the heat is unreal out there Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 6, 2012 Super User Posted July 6, 2012 I know that spot too, won't say where it's at. I have gone freshwater fishing only once in the last week or 2, don't like the weather. I've been consumed in trying to catch another species. Quote
mg4u2nv Posted July 7, 2012 Author Posted July 7, 2012 i hadnt been up to springs in a while, and figured wednesday was as good a time as any. The weather has been a problemso therefore we went out early and came back early. We left my house at about 6:15 and were back home by 10:30 before it got too hot. I just stayed in coral springs and didnt venture east at all so i can maximize fishing time. The bass bite down south has been off for me so a change of pace was needed. I have some numbers(which arent much from shore) but havent caught anything over 2lbs in a while. Hopefully i'll figure them out. good luck everyone! Matt Quote
Shane Procell Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 "Dog Days of Summer" for sure. Cllient and I boated 8 snakeheads today but just about passed out, actually the client did pass out a couple of times. The frog bite was definately early and the spinnerbait was on late. I have noticed that areas where guys are saying it's tough......I have gone through with a spinner bait and picked em up. The snakeheads are just a little deeper. Quote
Backyard Bandit Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 That is a great spot indeed! I agree with Cpt. Shane, I have also noticed snakeheads are not right on the banks as much and are hanging out deeper down from the shore. But i have been finding quite a few hanging out in the shady spots under trees and structures. Might be something to look for next time your out. The heat must be affecting them too. Quote
Diggy Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 We caught about 8 on Sat between my friend and I and lost about 5 more. I missed a small dink bass at the opening posters pictured location in the lillies. Did catch a small bass elsewhere on a humpin toad This was my biggest of the day, the way it was caught was a blooper reel once he took my booyah frog, luckily it wasnt on tape. We went out about 9 and ended about 4:30...it was fire hot after we left our shadiest locations. God Bless Gatorade and water. Quote
